    As per what I have learned from the discussions in this site, the primary purpose of backlinks is to promote your website to the readers of the concerned sites. When you post a comment on a blog, the readers of that blog can also read your comments and there is a probability that some of those readers will click on your backlink to know you more. That clicking will result in traffic. In short, backlinks provide extra traffic to the website.
