yes, it will work like this:
if your site has no Rank and google isn't showing your site in the search result....
and then you post your website URLon google plus, and google+ site has authority, then that google+ page (where you post your website link) will shown in Google search result in a few days..
and then you can get traffic and also get some authority and high Rank...

It does boost it up as any other social network, but with google it auto links and directs the traffic smoother and improves it far greater than other social engines. The only difference is their user base is much less.
