Well, one of the best sites I personally use to grab high pr backlinks to my niche sites and make search engines fall in love with those sites and get it ranked on the first spots is by using wiki sites.

You can generate backlinks by sharing your links on social bookmarking sites, through blog commenting, posting on forums, using website link as a forum signature, submitting your website to directories.
The most important thing to remember is always generating backlinks from the site on your niche. If you have a gaming website it does not make sense if you get backlink from cooking site.

You can post a comment that will include reference to your website and that link will be a quality backlink that may result in a higher ranking for your website. Aside from forums and blogs, you can also promote your website in social media networks which are considered social signals but actually backlinks too.
