For mobile optimization you can take help from WordPress template. WordPress template have automatic plug in system for mobile open. So if you create your website with WordPress or WordPress mobile version- than your website will be automatic mobile optimized.

Your website needs to be responsive in order to adapt to the various devices from a small screen mobile hand set to a large screen tabs and computers. If your theme allows the website adapt according to the device screen, your website will be optimized for the mobile devices. The key is to use a responsive theme. Secondly, having too many graphics will be detrimental to a mobile version. Have more text than graphics because if you have lots of graphics, loading will be slow.

As per the comments above, being responsive is the first and foremost thing that you should take into consideration if you want your site to be optimized for mobile browsers. And with the other SEO methods that you can do perhaps link building is still an effective method whether your website is for mobile or not because the backlink is generic and is not specific with the kind of browser.
