I like what you said about repairing bad processes before you automate them. There's no point going hands-off on something that isn't working effectively in the first place, and I think once something is automated you want it to be incredibly efficient. That's not going to happen if there are problems with processes in the first place.

Will be interesting to see how this automation thing pans out in the coming years. Will it be the norm or will it just fade away? I don't really agree with automation apart from just helping with the execution e.g automation helping you to pin, pins that you have already selected. I agree that buying an email list is counterproductive and a waste of money. Only organically acquired email lists work in m humble opinion.

As you said doing the marketing manually is limited in terms of the work and that big site owners will depend on automation for their marketing needs. What I found when I used dlvr.it for promoting my blog posts is that when people noticed that something was posted by a third party app, there wasn't much engagement. When I posted the url directly myself, more people would click "like" which would get me more traffic on my blog. I learned to automate a little and do the rest of the work myself. It secures better results.

Avoid automating bad processes

Yes indeed. Learned this the hard way.
First I automated the process. (I was tweeting.)
Then I didn't check on it because I assumed I could “set it and forget it”.
Then when I did check … I was like "What in the world? (O.o)" I had no clue as to what went wrong! My links were all screwed up. The posts looked spammy. It was an awful mess!

You can automate a bad process. But when you have to backtrack and correct errors ... usually that process is not automated and it takes forever to clean up the mess!

I have once participated in a marketing launch for one of our company’s products. As part of the online team, I experienced email marketing and posting in social media. Maybe if there is a way to automate the posting in social media and the sending of the emails then maybe that will have saved us a lot of work. Unfortunately there was no tools for automating the process so we did the marketing in the manual way.
