One of the hottest website trends right now is getting into eCommerce and selling your own products as well as someone else's and labeling it as your own. You can have a marketplace with other products and make a commission, or you can drop ship and still make a commission but people will think they're your own. Either route you choose to go, you will make some profits and be happy you got into online marketing, but you need to know the hot trends that are likely going to get better as time goes on.
In this discussion, I'll be going over those 5 very trends for your eCommerce website that need attention if you want to be successful.
There's always an international market
A lot of people target customers in their local area or just their country, but you're just limiting your sales since you could actually sell to the entire world pretty easily. Most people are worried about international shipping rates, but you can just use the USPS to do the package delivery and they will give you shipping rates to every country possible.
You could also go through WordPress and use WooCommerce with a USPS plugin so you don't have to calculate any sort of shipping since it will automatically be done for you. If you can set this up, and you can because it's not difficult, you'll be able to easily ship across the world and expand the reach with your products or services 
People will look beyond large corporate marketplaces like Amazon
A ton of people are abandoning websites like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart because they're bit chain stores online. More and more people are going to the smaller shops that are equivalent to a Mom and Pop shop you would pass on your way to a big chain store if you were driving.
People are moving away from big chain stores online because they can't trust them as much as a smaller shop that focuses more in one on one time with their customers, unlike the bigger platforms that are more corporate. Everyone is looking to be treated well, and these smaller niche sites are doing just that, which is why people are starting to flood them
Personalization is always a great thing
If you aren't sending out emails with the customers' name on them, knowing who they are before they contact you, and any other form of personalization there is, well you're just falling behind the websites that are.
Personalizing everything you can is key when you want to please everyone on your eCommerce website. You can add their names to your newsletters, always have a welcome message when they come to your website that has their name in it, and pretty much anything else you can think of if you just know who they are before they get to your website If you can personalize, you can capture a loyal customer, and they will always come back to purchase from you
Chatbots are on the rise and show no signs of slowing down
I've talked a few times about chatbots in the past, and they seem to be on the rise even now, so getting a chatbot working well on your website now will still keep you ahead of the curve when it comes to website design and marketing.
A chatbot is essentially an AI that has a conversation with your visitors so you can work on something else. If your chatbot is programmed well enough, has the right responses every single time, and doesn't try to trick people into thinking it's an actual person, you'll see that your sales will get boosted drastically over time.
Fraud protection will only get better
More and more people are worried about getting scammed each day, which entices security companies to get online and protect more users for a monthly fee. Most companies were charging hundreds a month, sometimes thousands, to use their services but that's a thing of the past since more people are searching for these services.
There are hundreds of services out there that help you protect your visitors, besides a basic SSL, and it will only increase the trust a user has on your website which usually turns into more sales
In conclusion
If you can focus on these 5 trends above, some being old and some new, you will be much more successful than the companies who aren't worried about hot trends. You will build trust among your visitors much more than anyone else in the industry, making you the authority over time, and that means the most sales coming through your website than your competitors

A little off topic, but I had my AdWords account targeting a worldwide audience and couldn't figure out why I wasn't very profitable. I was spending $10 a day and making $20, which profited me $10, and that's not a lot of money. I was talking to a bunch of potential customers and they said they didn't have access to PayPal, so I started thinking of ways to capture their payments, and 2co seemed like the best choice I already had an incorporated business, so the setup was easy, and after I made all my buttons I was then making $50 to $100 a day easily
A lot of the problem is that the smaller companies don't have the intelligence to ship overseas, even though they can use something like USPS and get it over there easily, they just don't offer it. Another problem with this is that some countries can't use specific payment methods, like PayPal, and that means the number of sales is limited due to people not being able to even purchase from certain stores.
I actually ran into this problem a while back when I was selling SEO services to clients. I only accepted PayPal, but they couldn't access it in their country, so I had to set up a 2checkout account and wait for it to be approved before I could start accessing the entire world. 2co accepts something like 85+ payment types or sources, including PayPal, which makes it extremely easy to capture a sale :D A little off topic, but I had my AdWords account targeting a worldwide audience and couldn't figure out why I wasn't very profitable. So in the end, a lot of Chinese web shops are getting people’s business while others miss out thanks to their poor shipping standards. I think that the Chinese market has pretty darn good grasp on the concept of international marketing. I’m originally from the U.S, but I moved to a European country not too long ago. I’m a big fan of online shopping, so I looked into getting some stuff shipped from old sites I used in the U.S. Not a single one of them shipped here. Then I looked into getting stuff shipped from the U.K, thinking it would be likelier since they’re in Europe. Still nothing. But Chinese sites like AliExpress? Perfectly fine with shipping to me. So in the end, a lot of Chinese web shops are getting people’s business while others miss out thanks to their poor shipping standards.
