When a lot of us started out online we were drawn to affiliate marketing because we didn't need our own product or service in order to make money online. A lot of people actually make a killing in affiliate marketing and it's because they take their time to set everything up before they actually go live. If they were to just wing it from the start, they would likely hit a lot of roadblocks and be spending more money than they were making.
If you're looking to jump into affiliate marketing, I'll tell you that it can be difficult if you're going in 10 different directions at the same time. You need to focus on what's working and avoid what isn't if you want to bootstrap your way to a lot of profits.
Below are just a few things to work over when you're getting into affiliate marketing, and they are:
Set up a nice looking website
You'd be amazed how many affiliate marketers have horrible looking websites that don't do much for their profits. If you want to be taken as a professional or industry leader, you need to look the part, and your website is the first thing people will judge you on.
If you can't do your own coding, just set up a nice looking Wordpress theme that you can customize to look niche specific, then add in your affiliate URLs wherever you think they're necessary. The better looking your website is, the more likely people will trust you when they land on your pages, and that always turns into more sales for you 
Add plenty of content
People are always focused on adding products and services to their websites and always forget that Content Is King, so they don't do much blogging in order to keep their websites fresh. I've come across thousands of affiliate websites in the past and not many of them are doing much content creation. It seems like they set up their websites, run over to Facebook and set up a PPC campaign, and call it a day. If they don't profit, the website dies out, and that's the sad part because they're leaving so much money on the table
Run some PPC campaigns
If you're trying to get serious about your affiliate marketing, you'll need to start running some PPC campaigns after you get plenty of content on your pages. You will want to run the campaigns so they are targeting your articles, and you'll start to notice your readers are now making purchases through your affiliate links that you've strategically placed within the sidebars or in the content itself
I never really run a PPC campaign and target the product or service page directly. I'm too worried that Facebook, Adwords, or Bing Ads will see my links and instantly ban my advertising account because they all hate affiliates lol. I play it safe and run ads to my secondary pages, which helps me stay off of the big platforms PPC radar, and I get some sales each day while spending a little bit of money to get traffic.
Don't spam facebook groups or forums
Please, please, please stop spamming your links wherever you can! You are doing what thousands of rookie and new affiliates are doing in order to make money. Sure, you could make a sale here and there if you were to do this method, but you'll likely get banned pretty quick from the groups and forums because you're just posting links that don't provide value to anything.
If you're spamming your affiliate links all over the place right now, and you don't plan on stopping, you're dead to me! lol
In conclusion
Affiliate marketing isn't a difficult thing to do, it just takes time to be legitimate and make a full-time income with it. I set up a website 5 years ago and it's still making me a passive income today because of all the work I put into it back then. I'm not getting rich off of it, but I am making an extra $100 to $200 a month off of it without having to do anything except add a new article here and there Set up 10 affiliate websites like that and you can easily make a full-time income in the next few months if you do everything right

Several deleted websites, blogs, business pages and miserable failures later … I have learned! So my additional advice is: Don't give up just because you did something WRONG! Everybody goes through a learning curve. That old proverb is true. “If at first you don't succeed, try again.”

I did the same thing when I was promoting a blog a year or so ago. It was a waste of time. While initially I did draw some traffic from Facebook groups and "friends" who saw my posts. All that traffic fizzled out after about two weeks. It made me lose interest in blogging for a while because my site wasn't getting traffic anymore.When I started out, I would spam a little bit here and there

Nowadays spending a lot of time in setting up your site and running marketing campaigns as an affiliate is a very hard thing to do more so if you create 10 sites for it. It'll cost a lot of money, and you need to be constantly sharing your links or creating videos in YouTube. What I'm saying is more and more people nowadays are like me, who really think that it's a one sided deal and one can't earn a lot from it. I think that's easier said than done. I would have to agree that if you set your mind in doing something correctly then you'll eventually earn through it. But with affiliate marketing, it was maybe effective then for people to earn good money from being affiliates.
