We've all landed on these highly annoying websites, and we probably left almost immediately, but not me! I like to stay on these websites to see all the funny stuff that is going to happen lol. Usually you can tell these webmasters just read a book on how to increase their conversions and now they are implementing literally everything the book told them, and then some!
It's not difficult to set up a website today, but it is really easy to annoy people who eventually land on your pages because they were initial interested in something they read and clicked through to your pages. They will then realized the mistake in their decision and either leave right away or get stuck on your pages, similar to how it's difficult to take your eyes away from a car crash!
In this discussion I'll be going over clear ways you can hurt your own sales, so try to avoid everything I talk about from now on within this discussion lol 
Constant pop ups
We've all landed on these websites in the past, and it's insane to think that people still think they work well for sales. Remember back in the early 2,000's (yeah, I'm old) when you would get to a website and a bunch of ads would start to pop up? Well, the website owner was making money from clicks on those ads as well as if someone would purchase after they clicked. They were making money through affiliate sales and CPA clicks, which might not have been much, and that's why they hammered your screen with dozens of pop ups lol.
People still do this today, and it's actually difficult to find these websites, but they're out there! I recently clicked on a banner ad I saw on a website where my own ad was located, and the advertised website was littered with at least 10 ads and it looked like the site was made when the internet went live
Stop using ridiculous pop up ads on your website! You can use 1, and that should only be your newsletter sign up form or a discount code to be used at check out!
Every article is a sales pitch
This is actually really annoying, not as much as the constant pop ups, but still pretty annoying. I see this almost every day when I'm searching websites, and what they'll do is write up detailed articles, but all of their content is a sales pitch. They will write up something about their website, niche, service, or product and pitch their own services at the very end. I'm on your website, I know what you're selling, so you don't have to pitch me every chance you get!
I see this all the time when I stumble across platforms like ezinearticles or something related, because people are trying to piggy back off of the authority of their domain, and make sales from their articles rankings within the search engines. Well, since Google slapped the hell out of these content farms, not many of them are ranking I don't see these annoying pitches all the time lol.
Every link leads to a sales page
When you land on a website, you understand that they will likely interlink everything for better search engine rankings, but some do insane internal linking and only point to their sales pages. It doesn't matter if they're talking about a different topic, they will link to their sales page, which doesn't really help them with their search engine rankings or sales.
I get it, they might think that if they get people to their sales pages then they will make more conversions, but that's not the case. They're actually annoying their visitors and that means their traffic is leaving after just one or two clicks lol
The navigation is horrible
This is what I really don't understand, when I get to a website and the navigation is convoluted, do they really think they're doing a good job? I've been to some websites that don't have a top navigation menu or a footer menu, it was like they expected me to know where I was going and how to search for everything I needed lol.
One of the biggest companies in the webmaster/website niche is GoDaddy, and they have garbage navigation in my honest opinion. Not only is it bad, but it seems like they change it around every 4 to 6 months and make it just as confusing while moving things around. It's like I get use to the annoying dashboard and then they throw their code up in the air and leave it where it falls. I don't know why they make it so difficult to do things, but maybe it's a way to keep people from moving their domains lol. If you get annoyed enough with a website that has your stuff on it, you'll like say "Screw this! I'll do it later!" and then you forget about it and GoDaddy profits haha
In conclusion
Stop putting up garbage websites that have dozens of pop ups, don't add articles that are just a sales pitch, don't link everything to a sales page, and be sure your navigation is tip top If you can do all of these, and not annoy your visitors, you will likely have a good website on your hands

I have read that spammy websites like the ones you are mentioning do not do well on the search results. Unless you apply the rel tag to the links the google bot will see the website as spam, and it could potentially get deindexed from their results.Some do well, but the majority of these tank because they don't know what they're doing. Every website needs some time invested in it, and that's why these spammy websites tend to do worse than normal

I'm a stickler for good navigation. I purchase a bunch of WordPress themes every year, and I won't use one that shows simple minded navigation on the pages lol. It's not difficult to set up a good navigation on WordPress, but if I don't have to do it myself, that's just some additional time I save that can be used for something else :D
