What is the best way to get more posters to your forum?

I am an owner of a forum that talks about how to make money online and used Google Adsense to monetize it. I used simple machines forum because it's easy to use and there's lots of customization but my problem is how to drive more visitors and posters to my forum? I don't want to spend money just to increase the traffic because I don't have the money to do so. Any suggestions?

You could try Postloop services. It's actually pretty good to draw traffic into your site, but always keep in mind that while Postloop provides the traffic, it's up to you on how would you make them stay. Your website could be a certain niche that not a lot of people can relate to, or it could be a really good one that would make them check it out every day for new updates because they enjoy being there.

SEO and marketing are best ways to get more posters to your forum. Why?
because you will have natural members come your forum daily and post without paying anything for forum posters.
Also, they will have better experience than forum posters because they know what they will write to help members there.
If you want to have more forum posters quickly, try to pay for some and they can post on your forum but take care because some can provide low quality content.

I agree with itommy. I think that you should look at SEO. You don't have to buy the SEO services but start learning and educating yourself about it. SEO is all about increasing the ranking of your forum/website on different search engines which result in more traffic aka more people coming to post on your forum. There are actually very easy tricks and techniques that require no actual knowledge (except being able to read instructions) and can greatly improve your rank.

Thanks for the tips. Yes you are right that the best ways to get more traffic is to apply SEO strategies to increase traffic and eventually people will become posters to my forum. I am still studying how to do SEO because I am just a newbie in this field.

As they say there is no gain without pain. Initially you should just think about making your forum attractive enough for visitors. You have already received a lot of feedback here on how to do it.
You can also take support from gateways such as postloop and The Forum Wheel. Users look at how much credit you have and accordingly subscribe. So if you have plans to tug yourself on to these gateways then see that you have enough credit.

In another thread, there was this topic about competitions in a forum and I agreed that contests and competition can definitely arouse interest of the community. Especially if the competition is relevant to me, I would be more active not only in participating but probably also in posting on the threads. But for a competition to be successful, you need support from the community. It's good if you have personal friends or colleagues in your forum who would join the kickoff of the contest so it would have a semblance of beehive activity. When the thread of the contest has few posts only, it would not seem to be attractive. But if the posts are countless then it would look interesting enough.

In your case you have a lot work to do and you also need to exercise patience while you await result for your effort. This is the first I will recommend is to pick a specie niche but reading your post clearly you have done that. Then you need to publish contents that will make the audience to come back over and över. And like wise contents that will be solve some problem and interesting at the same time.

Since your forum is in "make money online niche" , I suggest you should try postloop service. Most of the poster on postloop are there to make money online and would likely stay. And their contributions will definitely bring tariffs to your forum.

I think advertising will work best in this situation. You can post videos about your forum on YouTube and you can share those videos on social networks. Advertising on social networks do work as most people visit those sites. Otherwise, you can encourage the existing members to refer more people on your forum by giving them an incentive.

The best free way to get people post on your forum is to share it in facebook groups relevant to your niche and make sure you don't spam because you will be banned before you share that in even 5 groups, another way to get people to post on your forum is to share links and posts in form of query ask people their opinions and watch posts coming.

If you give incentives and rewards to the members, you can get new members as well as encourage members to remain active. Incentives and rewards can be in form of cash or providing ad space. Most of the forums I have joined have cash reward system. By posting regularly, I earn points, I can convert these points to cash or use the points to buy ad space. Some forums do not have cash reward system, but they have a section where you can advertise your website, product or services.

I had come across another discussion where the suggestion to get more members to the forum is contest and competition. I said that it is not really attractive at all because it is obviously just a ploy to get more posts on the boards. With the rewards that a member could earn from the forum, I guess that is more attractive in a sense that each member would be remunerated somehow for his efforts in contributing to the forum.

Contests and competitions are also a good way to get more members and make the existing members active. However, there is also a drawback when you are trying to gain members through these techniques. I was once on a forum that gave cash reward to the poster who creates maximum number of posts in the week. sadly, the forum gained more "trash" compared to quality posts.

There are some sites forums which though they aren't created for the intention of making money online provide members with a means through which they can make money. I've noticed that on one forum, they offered members tasks which they could complete to earn some money. If this can work for your niche, you could also promote your forum as a place where members can earn money too. Maybe it could draw in more members.
