If you have a small business and all you need is one page of simple and clean content that just informs your customers but it also helps them get in contact with you, then this new service from Google is everything you may need.
The new tool is called "Website" (Jesus, really creative Google!)
Apperently only about 60% of businesses on a worldwide scale have personal websites. Google wants to offer free services to the ones that don't have websites! But it will also make a lot of small businesses abandon their CMS, hosting service, monthly bills paid to an agency for maintenance and just create a simple website directly from Google My Business console.
The design is clean and cool. The user experience is good enough and it will work on every device out there. Not to mention the fact that it will probably have some ranking advantage since we are talking about a Google service here.
So if you have registered profiles with Google My Business that is also checked from a location point of view, meaning you need to verify the location with that code Google sends - you can just go ahead and create a new website for your business is a couple of minutes. It will automatically take photos, descriptions, titles, and content from your Google My Business account, this implementation will me automatic and will also include very specific info like opening hours, contact information as well as a click through action button that leads the users to a Google maps, efficiently putting them on a route to your physical location.
This is perfect for local businesses like bakeries, barbers, gifts shops, pet shops, coffee places, bars, restaurants, etc. Basically, everything that needs a website but doesn't need any complicated features or extended content. It just needs to appear in Google with a website that holds everything of an essence in a user-friendly and modern way.
If you don't own or you don't want to buy a custom domain you can use the default address which will be something along the lines of yourbusinessname.business.site - the business.site being Google's domain and the subdomain will be whatever you want your company is called. But I personally prefer seeing a custom domain and the best part about all of this is that Google gives you that option and you can actually buy a custom domain right there from the website builder, under settings.

Good points. I haven't tested it out, but if they had ftp or similar services you could easily backup your site and content and bring it elsewhere if they decide to end it, although, we are talking about google. I doubt they would be launching something random without testing it and researching how the people might feel about it. After all, they have eyes and ears everywhere, as pretty much everyone uses google. :)
