Recently I went to visit a friend at his new apartment in Chicago and we decided to go out to dinner with our ladies. We were walking to the train station and I noticed a book store ran by Amazon. Now I've been working online for a while and I have never heard about these stores, I thought they were all over the place and I just happened to miss them. In actuality it seems like Amazon has a few of these stores around the United States and I'm not oblivious lol. It seems like they have opened stores in Midtown, San Diego, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, and two in Massachusetts.
Some people are outraged as to why Amazon it coming in and trying to open up physical stores when they are already the kings of online retail. I myself don't mind, but I also don't read many physical books since I do most of my reading online or on a kindle. People are worried that Amazon is going to come in and take over the book market just like how Walmart will move into an area and take over. Walmart will come in and set up a location and slowly but surely the mom and pop shops in the area will begin to close because they can't afford to pay their bills due to the lower sales. Mom and pop shops simply can't compete with fortune 100 companies pricing since they can purchase in extreme bulk which gets them the absoulte best wholesale pricing, which can't be competed with. This results in the fortune 100 company having the best pricing for something which strangles the local economy until it's dead and the store takes over. For this reason, people are worried about the Amazon book stores popping up in specific locations and selling what the mom and pop bookstores sell.
Amazons book stores sell their top rated books and magazines in physical forms. They will not have something on the shelf if it is below 4 stars, mainly because they don't have enough space on their shelves for everything. If they were to add everything, they would have to lease out a warehouse and only hold 1 of every book lol. Amazon will show the amount of stars the book has on their marketplace as well as one or two of the best reviews so you can see what people said about the book online. This is a great selling point and will definitely increase the sales through the store. Another thing about being a prime member is that when you scan the book you will get shown the discount which is for you, and not people with basic accounts.
If you're an amazon member you can do a simple checkout at the front kiosk and you don't have to set anything else up. You can simply log in, purchase and then leave with your physical copy of the book in hand. You don't have to wait for the 2 day shipping even though that's not a long wait lol. Since there are hundreds of millions of people registered on Amazon, it's unlikely that you don't have an account on their platform. So purchasing is extremely easy and you don't have to exchange any cash to do so. Everything is still digital when it comes to payment 
You can still purchase items for your Kindle through the physical Amazon stores. They wouldn't take that out of their system just because they now sell physical copies of books in store. Taking away kindle sales would just be a bad idea, and Amazon saw this.
People are wondering why Amazon is opening up physical stores when so many are closing around them. Stores like Payless, Macy's and Ralph Lauren are a few of the big names that are getting taken down by online marketplaces in their same niche. I personally think that Amazon is opening up these physical stores just to get the word out that people can purchase books on their marketplace. Another reason for opening up these physical stores is because people still like going into a book store and purchasing a physical copy of a book because they are so use to the system. They go in, pick a book they like, purchase the book and go home to read it.
In Conclusion:
I don't mind seeing these Amazon book stores popping up around the US because I've never had an attachment to any sort of bookstore. Now there are others out there who are outraged because they are predicting that these stores will take over the book market online and offline. These Amazon book stores seem to be like a great step forward for Amazon, but the research just isn't there to warrant a mass store opening in a short amount of time. I'm sure that when Amazon has these first few stores open and getting sales regularly they will either start to close them or branch out into smaller cities. It's all a matter of time and we don't know the outcome, which is annoying for any business owner lol

I'm expecting them to make a move on the biggest Amazon like web-store in Romania in the following 2 years. This will probably result in a takeover by Amazo, which frankly won't be a bad thing because of the current management kind of sucks as customer service.
I don't mind them open physical stores either, especially not bookstores which are totally irrelevant to me. I don't really care where I buy my books from as long as I find what I want and the price is good. Amazon will be a world-wide thing in a couple of years. It already started to take over the world by making huge steps into Europe as well as the Middle East.
