How to add a thumbnail to a video file before uploading to YouTube?

Hello I'm on Windows 10 now and it doesn't have Movie Maker like Windows 7 did. So I would just use that to add a thumbnail to it before uploading to YouTube. I've tried uploading it and then choosing a custom thumbnail but the option to browse for one on your PC and use that isn't available which seems daft!

So how can I edit this file on my PC first so that when I upload to YouTube I can select the thumbnail to be the image that shows on that video before it's played? Like, what freeware software is there that's good for doing that kind of thing?

Update: I figured it out. I had to verify my account by phone. Thought I'd already done that with Google but that's the solution if you ever come across it!

It is easy to use the thumbnail option in youtube. If you want to choose the thumbnail of your own choice rather than a few selected by youtube uploader then you would have to make a screenshot of the video at the specific timestamp. After saving the screen shot, upload your video to Youtube and then choose the custom thumbnail by uploading the image you saved from the screenshot.

If you have any copyright or any other counterstrike then you would not be able to choose the custom thumbnail. It's mean that you should have a better reputation on Youtube to apply your own thumbnail.

Happy to listen that you already have done with your task. I just shared my opinion. If you have any other better way then choose that one.

If I remember correctly, there is a feature in Youtube that you can select the thumbnail to your video. Youtube gives you 3 choices but you can also upload your own thumbnail with a size that doesn’t exceed 2 mb. We usually upload an image for the desired thumbnail because the video is usually more of the unnecessary scenes that can give irrelevant images for the thumbnail.
