Hi all. So today for some reason my computer has gone kaput on me! It had been playing up and making strange noises for a little while now. And I had a sneaking suspicion it was the hard drive. And I was going to back up my saved files and stuff on it to an external drive but I can't seem to find it so was going to get one I could do that with. Anyway, today on turning on my computer it's not booting up. It shows the Packard bel logo but it doesn't let me boot even into safe mode. I've tried everything but it's not having it! And I'm getting a bit worried now because I have virtually everything on it, my clients work, my saved text files, plans, projects, stuff like that.
Anyway ive just ordered a new computer now but it's not going to be here for a few days which means I won't really be able to fulfill people's orders. I might go down the library tomorrow and see what I can do on that as I should be able to complete a couple orders for articles and stuff.
But otherwise I won't be able to do much until I get online properly!
But tell me this, is my hdd proper gone or do you think there would be a way I can somehow extract the data from it somehow? Have you ever done this before yourself? Does anyone here know and thing about that and can point me in the right direction to some way I can do that?
Like, what gear would I need to get to connect that to my new computer? I guess it's just a matter of knowing what kind of hdd it is right? I think it's a SATA HDD if that helps!

There's not too much that you could do, there are some places that do hard drive recovery, but they can charge from 500 up to several thousand. If it really is the hard drive being the problem then there may not be much you can do. However when you do get your new computer, make sure that you start backing up from the get go! That way even when something crashes, you have it all backed up and saved :)

But ye, ever after that crash, I started doing backups. I do at least one backup every 2 days. It might seem much but it's worth it. The amount of data you can potentially lose vs spending 5 minutes for a backup?? seems like a no brainer. Just buy an external USB HDD and save everything on there in the future. Hope your loss wasn't too great. I think your best bet would be to take it a really good IT person. I had mine crash on me before and one guy was able to restore some parts through some software... I got no idea. My computer knowledge isn't complex enough to fully understand how. But ye, ever after that crash, I started doing backups. I do at least one backup every 2 days.
