VPNs, And Their Affect On Ad Supported Websites

It's becoming more and more common to use VPNs online. They can help protect your identity, can help protect you from attackers, and can allow you to access region restricted content. It's not just businesses and pirates, regular everyday people are starting to use them more too.

Many websites depend on ad revenues, but lots of traffic coming from the same IP may be of little value to ad providers. Some ad providers will only count a given IP once per day. This means that as more users of a given website switch to VPNs, the site may have lower revenues, despite getting the same amount of traffic. While rare, a few sites have started combating this by blocking visitors who are using a known proxy or VPN IP address. This is irritating, but it does make sense. Your ad views pay for their site, but this only works if your view has value, and if you're using a VPN, your view may not.

Great and valuable information mate thank you for sharing . Is VPN more better then Shared hosting as my hosting provider as different types of hosting with shared and VPN.

I think you're confusing VPNs and VPSes. A VPS is a virtual server which, can be used for webhosting, but it could also be configured to provide VPN services. Most web hosting providers provide shared hosting, VPS hosting, and dedicated server hosting. Typically VPS hosting is better than shared hosting, but comes at a higher cost. A VPN is a service provided by a server that is configured to allow other computers to connect to a network (typically the internet) through it. This means that any connections made (eg: visiting a website) will see the server IP, and not the computer's IP, because the server is acting as a middle-man.

I think VPN blocking ads have damaged a lot of people. And it has resulted in many websites collapsing. So one has to consider that some of the effects of the ad supported websites can be harder. You have to find other means to support those websites. And that's another thing to consider when blocking them. Adblocker and VPN have surely affected many such options there. I guess we have to see how that one goes.

VPN is alien to me and I am interested to learn about it. In fact, there was one writer who messaged me about using VPN that it can affect the Adsense monetization earnings if you are using VPN. I did not reply to the message because I have zero knowledge about virtual private network. But I understand that a VPN can have several users with just one IP address.
