    Many website owners and bloggers have used the guest posting strategy to get massive traffic and improve their blog quality. Regardless the big changes on Google search engine algorithm, guest posting still works and is dependable.

    You know the advantages of guest posts to your blog, so you will proceed accepting guest posts on your blog. The important thing you need to do is set a decent set of guidelines. With serious guidelines, you will be able to avoid things which hinder your blog for becoming popular and befriended by search engines.

    Every blog has different characteristics, thanks to different owners. But basically, you can state these aspects in your guidelines:

    1. Criteria of blog posts approval. With such criteria, bloggers will consider their post quality before submitting. It will increase the high quality posts submission.
    2. Specify the post format. This way you will avoid correcting wrong format or reject good content with bad format.
    3. Mention the topics which are acceptable. By letting the bloggers know which topics to cover, you will save your time in screening irrelevant submission.
    4. Stating the rules. You will have solid reasons to modify or reject post without feeling guilty.
    5. Anything else. Add any personal preferences to the list here.

    Now for the rules, it is probably the matter which will need more time and you can change many of them in the future. From the bloggers and contributors of your blog, to the guest posts you are selecting, using rules will allow you to rest assured that your site will get great content. It will result in better audience response as well as search engine assessment towards your site.

    If you don’t have rules in guest posting, your site will be filled with tons of junk content. In the end, it is too late to fix your site reputation because giant search engines will have penalized your site due to bad content. There are tons of high authoritative blogs which were allowing guest posts, those are now are sinking deep down to the bottom of the SERPs. It is because many of them accepted spammy links and so-so content. At this point, you need to know about what Google thinks about guest posting.

    Take your time and do your research. Consider scouting your competitor's’ site and learn about their guest posting rules and guidelines.

    What you should know is that many of the guest bloggers out there have never written guest posts, which can be terrible for your blog. But it is not a big deal if they have great writing portfolio. The important homework for them before posting is to read your rules and guidelines.

    Old doesn't mean not valuable and not worth doing. The old saying "it doesn't hurt to ask" and "if you don't ask you don't get" applies to guest posting. There could be many great high authority sites in your niche out there that if you just ask you could get a guest post on. And related links from sites in the same industry as yours are worth their weight in gold. The trick is to making them look as natural as possible. Oh and asking the owner in the right way at the right time. Not just sending them an email and asking for a guest post (although that can work) but finding a way for them to see you in a good light first. And then going in for the kill!     Blog commenting still works. Well not the same as before. But if done rightly it can provide you with links from related sites to yours as well as find new ways and blogs/people to network with and increase your own blogs reputation and establish yourself as an authority as well. It takes quite a lot of time though and there's so many horror stories out there that less and less people are willing to do it today.

    Is Guest Posting the same as Blog Reviews? That use to be a huge strategy that really worked but Google destroyed it.

    Yeah they did. But only because they knew it was working! Like most things that Google stamps out, they only do so because they used to work. By "work" I mean it used to have a positive affect on your rankings. And Google doesn't like anyone ranking their way to the top by doing something like guest posting and blog reviews. But yeah, guest posts aren't quite the same as blog reviews. Similar but guest posts are more natural and less forced where as blog reviews are literally reviews of your blog or one of your products or something and then linking back to your blog or your sites product like.

    Thank you for offering such an informational discussion! One problem I have, this is not in your discussion, is finding high enough quality blogs to author a guest post on. For an example: I have a MMORPG, it is a small game, not many players (like 2-5 on a daily basis) how exactly would I find a good blog in my game's niche. Surely I could just target MMORPG related blogs, but I want a sub-niche in the MMORPG niche. MMORPG blogs would be too broad to author a guest post, and may do me harm, so this is one issue I have. So if you could please post another discussion on how to find that perfect niche blog to guest post on we'll all be so thankful! Keep the good content coming!

    I agree that you have to maintain the quality of posting by monitoring and with clear guidelines. One blog I know had lost many readers when the blogs were cluttered with low quality comments and some even appear to be spam. That is obviously the negligence of the admin or the blogger himself by not monitoring the comments on the blogs. It is all right to delete nonsensical comments but the poster should be fully informed for the reason.
