    Hmmm well there are a number of them out there. Honestly, the best thing to do would be to start digging! Googling things like "best social network script" etc etc and then checking out those top 10 lists and things. They all have their pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. Some of them are buy once but they have many add-ons you can purchase that add further features and functionality to your site. And some of them are by subscription as well and charge you monthly depending on how many users you have.

    Some of the one off scripts are ones like phpFox, Moosocial, Elgg & Dolphin. And some of the top subscription scripts are Hoop.la, Jostle and Jive. But you propose a good question and it's one that I'm sure it's one that many on here have wondered.

    I'd be interested to hear what other people (those that have some experience in this field) have to say though. What is the best social network script

    I'm using mooSocial to build my Niche social network site for dentist. It's very good and included everything i need. It's very fast, mobi apps included and a lot of advanced plugins that built by moosocial also. Used to use phpfox, Socialengine but my big problem is dealing with developers (3rd). Got an issue, contact developerA and he said it's bug of developerB and my issue never been resolved. One other big problem is that the plugin that i used is from a developer but they stopped. The new version of the script is released but I can't contact that developer to help me upgrade my plugin.

    Support from mooSocial team is the best by the way.
