    Super-laser-targeted niche blog or something more "generic"?

    Hey guys,
    What do you think about this..?

    A. - A super targeted niche blog, with just a few hundred readers per month, if the blog turns out good. Perhaps a few thousand people at the very most, if you're going huge. And I mean huge like a "superstar" basically.

    B. - A more "easy" blog with more "loose" content that attracts many more readers in general. But also a blog with content that many others are writing about. This is basically freelancing content for instance.

    If you had these, or had the options to get one of them. What would you do?

    And yes. You'll obviously try to make money off of these blogs. No matter which option you pick.

    I have heard so many people say that the super targeted niche is easier to make money with but I would personally struggle with that. How would you be able to come up with fresh content all the time?

    I like it being more broad so it is easy to keep fresh content coming out all the time.

    From my understanding Lynne.. Even though it's actually slim to none when it comes to blogging. - It seems like they don't come up with fresh content all the time. They do a handful of blog posts per month, tops. And they make money through affiliate sales for expensive products. - Which is why it's a more lucrative business than the "average blog" so to speak. - However, you'll still need to come up with a "super targeted niche" to work with, and that could be extremely difficult, as you'll have to have some knowledge and experience with it.

    Yes I think you could be right here Andre. My addiction blog does not have a lot of content but I do have a regular flow of visitors and that is more targeted than my online marketing blog or my mommy blog.

    So yes I think super targeted you would need less content than a broader blog.

    I'd say go with something you are passionate about and interested in over going with something generic or super niche targeted. That way you're much more likely to be successful with it as opposed to going with something that you don't really care much about and soon loose interest in it. Although that said, going with something that can cover a wide variety of niches, subjects and topics means that you can pick and choose what you want to write about and publish on that blog. And you'll also have more options as to what kind of advertisers you can use on that site too. Although with using something like Adsense to earn on the site with, you can target high paying keywords instead of just only being able to publish a certain type of content only with a niche targeted site and the keywords might not pay a lot CPC with them.

    So if I had the option, and course we all have the freedom to choose whatever site we want. I'd probably go with something that I could publish any type of content on. A site like Forbes for example. There you can find a myriad of different content in many different categories. Except, don't do what Forbes do and block you from using their site unless you've disabled Adblock as that will just annoy people and make them never visit your site again. Only Forbes can get away with that simply because they have millions of people viewing their site every day.

    Thank you Mike, I appreciate your answer. Regarding Forbes and the adblock thing.. You said that they get away with that.. And let me tell you, they don't. As soon as I stumbled on a Forbes article, I DON'T click on it. I'd never disable my adblocker to read just an article. And especially not on a site like Forbes! Super-laser-targeted niche blog or something more "generic"?

    When it comes to micro niches I would go with the entire subject. A subject can contain multiple micro niches so basically that would mean I'm going from plan B. I started such a blog in my native language, the subjects only gets around 1k searches per month and even if I'll get ranked number one for all 10 keywords I still won't get 1k traffic per month, I will only get around 300-400.

    Keep in mind websites ranked number 1 on certain keywords only get about 35% organic CTR.
    Bottom line: I would go with the entire subject, if the subjects contains multiple micro niches even better.

    It’s like a choice between a rifle with a telescope and a shotgun. A rifle can hit only one but more precisely that it can kill the target while the shotgun can hit a lot or none at all and since with no precision, those targets that are hit may not even be injured at all. For me, it is the rifle shot approach that matters most. It’s another adage that says a bird in the hand is worth 2 in a bush so even if there is only 1 visitor that I can convert into a loyal reader then it is worth it than making a gamble with many visitors with no clear cut agenda in their visit.
