    How often do customers take chances with you and how do you deal with it?

    What I want to know is how often do customers take chances with you and how do you deal with it?

    Say for example you have a service for something like publishing a guest post and a service extra which is for you to provide an article right?

    A customer sends you a message and ask you if you can also provide an article if they order an extra service.

    You reply and say yes you can order the service extra for that.

    They then order two of the services at $5 each totally $10 instead of ordering the service at $5 and the service extra at $35.

    How would you deal with something like this since my feeling is the customer is taking a chance.

    You mean this customer is paying $10 in total instead of $40? Because I am not sure if I understood you. If that is the case I would not agree as there is a big difference in the price that was supposed to be paid.

    Well, I guess the client in this scenario are trying to squeeze out as much as they can for as little as possible. No?

    When I sold social media services in the past, I had several clients doing this.They tried to get more for less basically and what I did, was to agree most of the times. Just because I didn't had the energy to discuss with them. - But a few times, I told them no. After they placed their orders, as I would end up losing money doing it.

    I usually sent them something like this:
    "Hello username,
    We agreed on this service along with this extra. That's a total of $XX.
    You've placed 2 orders for this service without the extra, and that doesn't match the amount we agreed on.

    Accept my mutual cancellation and you'll get your money back. Feel free to place the correct order."

    That way, they usually accepted my cancellation and they also placed a new order.

    Thanks for the advice Andre, as you know I am quite a newbie to selling freelancer services in market places. I have had plenty of problem customers with my online store but not in an online marketplace.

    You are welcome Lynne! - Feel free to ask whatever, whenever. I'll be here ready for an answer for you as often as I can! How often do customers take chances with you and how do you deal with it?

    That being said, I know, and things can be odd and look weird sometimes, but in scenarios like this, I would just go with a cancellation. I mean, you'll have to discuss things with the clients otherwise, and then cancel, and wait for a new order.. So to save time, you can just tell them everything within the cancellation notice.

    It usually does the trick.

    Yes I think you are right. Part of me wanted to just do the order and let them know that if they place another order they must do it correctly. You know in the hopes of a good rating and all... but then my wiser self reminds me that these types of people are usually the ones that just take and take and when it comes to giving a bit back don't actually bother to leave a review or even worse write a shabby review.

    Since I sell PHP scripts to basically people whom are internet newbies or people who want to start up an online business, I believe they take a chance not only with me, but with making money via the internet. I basically have to jump through hoops, and walk a fine line as it were with these types of clients because they get so easily angered or "fed up" with what they have to do to make a living online. Some people believe that it's easy to earn money online, but then realize it's not as easy as it appears. I always say things like "Are you sure you can do this?", "Do you have enough time?" because people are so impulsive, and if their website doesn't get any traffic, or users then they automatically blame the programmer for whatever issue they believe that's hindering their website. It can get quite tiring working with internet newbies, or people wanting to start their own online business.. yeah..

    Oh I'm sure you get a load of problems Everett. Most people I come across online are either bullshitters or the ones that have been bullshitted on.... either way most people don't seem to have a realistic view of how things work to make money online.

    I think for some of the customer requirements, both the sides take chances with each other. So I guess it works out for each one of us. So we just have to work around with that. Not all the people can pull this off though. We have to trust customers on this. And customers need to be trusting our way of thinking. That in itself is going to have it's set of improvement. It takes time to deal with this.

    I don't deal with that. I do negotiate prices with clients. But, once those prices are agreed, that is it. There is no "can you throw this in if we buy this". I let them know that I have plenty of work, and they are always free to roll the dice finding someone else.

    When once one is in business, one should come to terms with this.Customers are always looking for a way to take chances.They are always aware of what they're doing, they just want to see if the seller will oblige them and if one do, they take advantage.But in this case, I think the client was just being mean.

    I don’t have an experience with that kind of client because my main line is only for paid forum posting. But I had several contracts already and I think I had refused the renewal of 2 offers because of the difficulty of payment on their side. But if I could give them a favor in doing some other task for their needs then I would probably not hesitate because when I accept a contract it is not only for the money but more for the friendly relation.
