    Why are people looking for Mentors?

    Hey Freelancers,
    I'm a little bit curious.. I published 2 different CD's about two months ago or so.



    And I see so many people asking for "good mentors" when I visit internet marketing forums, and I see this more or less every single day..

    Sure, even though I can understand why they're looking for it, I'm still curious to know, if these people are trying to get "safe shortcuts" so to speak?

    I mean, most people, especially newcomers, are asking "how do I do this and that to make money", but to ask for a mentor.. Doesn't that seem a bit odd, if you're not truly serious about it?

    What do you think about this? - Is mentors "the way to go"?

    A lot of people ask because they don't know where to start or they don't want to learn on their own. I know that when I started out I was kind of going in circles until I found internet marketing forums which pushed me in the right directions. One thing I really don't get is people ask where they can get a good mentor while they're on a forum, but they lack vision and don't realize the forum itself can be your mentor lmao Why are people looking for Mentors? You can literally ask any king of question related to your niche or if something would work and you will get numerous responses depending on how popular the forum is. Let's say you're on BHW or WF and ask the question "What is SEO?" you'll probably get told to use the search bar since everyone knows you didn't even try to figure out the answer on your own lol. But if you were to ask something like "Do you think building X links will affect Y website and help bring in sales?" Then you'll probably get a better response rate and more information out of it.

    When I see someone asking for a mentor, all I see is "I'm lazy and I want you to give me your secrets to success so I can make money and not earn it on my own!" Because basically that's what they're doing. Now I don't mind helping someone out with answers to their questions or even helping them streamline their system so it converts better. But there's no way in hell I'll give someone my money making secrets and techniques because that means they will be taking money out of my pocket and food off of my table. My niche is already loaded with competition and I don't want someone to be a very direct competitor because now they have the same step by step system I use to make money.

    I have had so many people ask me to mentor them how blog and I tell them well that really isn't what I do right? I am not a mentor I am a blogger. I have pointed these people all in the direction of the places they can learn how to blog but they just keep coming and asking me questions but not following my advice on where to go and learn. This makes me feel like Razzy maybe has it right, these are lazy people that want me to do 90% of their job for them.

    There are a few people I have enjoyed helping because I give a little guidance and off they go and work hard at it.

    There are many people who want to get rich quickly. And so rather than being patient and doing at least some effort to find opportunities online, or come up with something that can work for them, they prefer to opt for the lazy option - finding and paying a mentor to lead the way. Even though I have nothing against those who work as mentors I really do not think much of the people who rely on a mentor's service.

    Depends on what kind of generation you are part of. Millennials, for example, were brainwashed by their parents with the idea that they are special, that they can become anything and can do everything. Truth, is very few people in this world are indeed "special" and most of us are just mediocre, we have to understand that first and foremost. We need to understand that only be hard work can we achieve anything in life.

    A lot of true mentors nowadays are discarded because they speak the cold truth about life and the things you must do to succeed in your area of expertise. Most "guru" out there are just inflating egos, doing very little to actually help someone.

    I tried to be a mentor for people that asked me "how do I make a living online?" or "how do I earn a little extra?" - So I gave them the hard truth and direct facts, I was willing to help them every step of the way but they didn't want that, they wanted instant gratification, they wanted a shortcut when there wasn't one.

    So, in my opinion, most people nowadays don't look for "mentors" they are looking for people to teach them the shortest way to success.

    My personal experience is that their advice can often save you time and money. So surely people looking for mentors and the guide can be of real help. There are times when the business may require some understanding of the customers. And for this one has to be super proactive. With enough understanding how to work, in such case the mentors can be of real help. That's where the people should adopt and change their tactics. Mentors are valuable just for that.

    One good thing about having a mentor is not only that it guides you to the path of success, but a mentor is always there to help you avoid certain mistakes of working as a freelancer which will stimulate your path to success as well as ensure that you climb up the rather in a fast way.

    My husband used to be working as technical consultant for a company and at the same time a mentor for leadership and other training like team building. My take on mentoring is more for an offline activity because I had seen how the mentoring was done in actual practice that it is not all about the agenda that is being taught but the camaraderie that the participants get as an added benefit.
