Freelancers,
I often work 12+ hours per day and sometimes I've been working for about 17-18 hours too.. And if we think about it, most freelancers I know are working somewhere between 10 and 12 hours per day. - It's very common.
However, lately I've been thinking about working less. Not only due to the hours I'm working but also due to the fact that I'm working from one day to the next. I've barely worked starting on a Monday and stopped working on the same day. I usually stop working on Tuesday. I literally work around the clock.
That being said, I've been doing this because I've felt comfortable with it. I like the late hours and I believe that I work more effective during the late hours. - But is that really the truth?
I don't know, and I'm interested in finding out the most efficient time for me to work. - That's why I'm willing to try to work after a schedule. So I work for about 8 hours per day instead. And do it more like a "day job" so to speak.
The thing is, that it's tricky to change something I've been doing for years. I've been able to change it for about 1 or 2 days at the most, and then I'm back in the same routine again. - What do you think? - It's November. It's dark outside and we all need some sort of daylight to feel good. - Do you think it's better to have an actual work schedule and work the hours you would work if you had a day job?
Some would say that it's smarter to work that way.. - Why would that be the smarter choice?

I am like you Anweb. Except the part taking a day off. - I just can't. Well, in fact I could probably do it, but it rarely happens. I'm even working on Christmas Eve. Occasionally I have a day off and that's on New Years Eve. - However I would like to have some sort of schedule. Obviously not a schedule that was "set in stone" so to speak, as that's hard to achieve.. But something. It would be awesome to have a few days off every now and then. :D

Yeah.. It's kind of weird when you go to sleep at 08.00-10 am and go up at 13.00-14.00.. Well, I personally think it is a bit weird. - But I also believe it's due to the fact that I'm working with people from the US etc. Which have different time zones. It's a difference of about 6 hours or so, in Sweden and the US, so when those people are working late.. Then I'm working early mornings. :D

Take a day off? Not even if I'm ill! I don't like the thought of taking a day off from it all, and that day a client needing me or me letting a client down by not using that time to work on their order or something. And that could upset them and leave me with a negative review. But sometimes, I just need to get off the computer no matter what! I need to step away and go and do something else.
I know what you're saying about the daylight. The days are getting shorter and it gets darker earlier and before you know it it's late at night. And you can spend 12 hours on the computer working away before you even know it. But so I try to get some daylight and go out and do stuff in the mornings as that's my sort of "me time" if you know what I mean. Whether it's going to work or going round a friends house or doing some house chores or something.
I live near the sea so I sometimes spend some time just going for a walk along the sea front. I find this very relaxing and empowering so that when I come back, I'm ready to tackle all the stuff I need to do online, whether it's working for clients or myself, researching new stuff, working on my sites and stuff like that.
It's all about regulation. Regulating your time. And doing enough in the day to make you feel like you've been productive. I like to get up and do stuff in the morning so that I can feel like I've been productive. Even if it's just doing some washing lol but I know what you mean by feeling like you're missing out on something. I could spend a lot more time out and about but choose to stay in and work on my freelance career so that ultimately, I have a nest egg to retire on or just more security and the like so I can do those nice things with.
You've got to live, but you've got to work to live too you know? :)

I guess we already work smarter, but we have to admit that we are too addicted to internet and we overdoing it without solid reason. Yes?? I guess so :/ Who knows my friend. Sometime i ask my self same question. I have to admit that freelancing is very addictive. Many times i spend over 12 hours each day. There is no work included all the time ofc but researching new ideas, improving our knowledge, keeping up with current trends etc etc etc.... My friends telling me, they miss me. I miss them too, but why the heck i can't get my but of the chair? I do get complete day off occasionally because it's easier then work only 4 hours and go out... I guess we already work smarter, but we have to admit that we are too addicted to internet and we overdoing it without solid reason. Yes?? I guess so :/
