When you need to pull in sales, one of the quickest ways to do that is to advertise on other websites. This could be through platforms like adwords or Yahoo! and Bings adcenter for PPC campaigns. You can also try to go the banner advertising route which can either be amazing or a total bust.
How do you pick the perfect website to put your banners on to pull in sales?
When I'm looking for a website to advertise on with a banner it HAS TO BE niche related. If I'm advertising SEO then I need the website to be related to SEO and not something like web design or graphics. This is because people are coming to that website looking for what it's about, so if you have an SEO related banner on a web design website it will most likely get passed over.
How do you determine if the price of the ad position is worth it?
When I'm looking to place a banner I'll always ask how much traffic they are getting if it's not obvious. Normally $100 for 500,000 impressions is a great deal, but it also depends on where the ad is located. If it's a header ad where it will load as soon as the person gets to the website, then buy it right now! If it's a footer ad with 500,000 impressions for $100 then you should avoid it at all costs. This is because not many people will actually go to the bottom of the page and see your banner. Websites will load the entire page and if your banner loads in the footer, regardless if anyone sees it, it's considered one impression. That's why I always try to get a banner above the fold which is the bottom of your monitor when the page loads.
In the past and even now I've had some ad spots that seem incredible because of how many impressions I'm going to get and the price is much lower than it should be. But then I come to realize that the website is just boosting their traffic through bots or software that basically does a slow DDOS attack that doesn't take down their server. This will give them a huge amount of impressions, but you'll get 0 sales out of it. They may have some real traffic, but it's not much. It's almost impossible to tell if a website is doing this because they never post reviews of their previous advertisers. If they did, every platform would be out of business.
So how do you determine if a website is worth putting a banner on?
