    27 percent of people use only their smartphones

    Google states that 27 percent of people use only their smartphones to access the internet in a given day.

    This is actually not that surprising if you think about it. My wife almost never uses the laptop or the tablet, she only uses her smartphone to access the internet. Even if she is at work she has a desktop, she never goes outside work related problems to access online content.

    In other words, she is a mobile-only internet user. Although Google says that 27% use only the mobile in a given day, I wonder how many people use ONLY mobile or the vast majority of time use mobile to access the internet. I bet the actual number is pretty significant.

    The study also concluded that about 80% use a smartphone every day to go online as well as 14% using desktop/laptop only.

    So smartphone users go up every year as desktop and general computer users go down each year.

    This is pretty interesting, I wonder how much will the newer generation that is being raised with a smartphone will end up using a normal computer 10 years from now?

    Will laptops and desktops end up being used only for work stuff? What do you think?

    I love these statistics and the best part is that they make sense. Computers are becoming a in office kind of thing more often nowadays. I don't think that mobile devices or tablets will ever replace a good ole work station when it comes to that department. Having a smaller device that can to 85% of what a desktop can do while your on the go is critical in these times. My entire personal life is on mobile, i only work and shop from my PC. I think in the household mobile devices will take over but work work you still have certain jobs that require a keyboard and mouse and multiple screens. Remote assistants would have to change as we know it. You would need people to access your phone rather than computer. I am young so it will be interesting to see where the next 10 years goes.     I'm a computer lover and always will be. It could be the most powerful smartphone in the world I still will choose a computer, I just hate phones because they makes me feel too limited when it comes to do my things, replacing my computer with a smartphone it's something that will never ever happen.

    I'm not fan of smartphones, in sense that I should do everything on it, yes I use it mostly to talk with my family/friends or browsing on internet sometimes when I'm not in home, but that's it I can't do anything else on it. Computers are computers, I can stay without my phone, but not without my computer.

    In the end I don't think that computers will be used only for work, I just don't see it smartphones as something that can replace the power of computers.

    Yep, and according to Facebook you only have 1.4 seconds to get the users attention before they go to the next page. But because of the of the small screen. The user becomes more focused according to Facebook. They spend of billion dollars on the study. In my opinion. Slapstick or horror are the two things that we'll get much My attention in 1.4 seconds on my cell phone. What do you think?

    I have seen such a massive increase in mobile users accessing my internet over the last few years so I am not surprised at all by these statistics.

    Not everyone has a laptop or an internet connection at home so mobile is obviously one of the cheaper and more convenient options for most people to connect.

    I personally detest using my mobile phone for surfing online. Yes I check my emails, use Whatsapp, use Instagram and also Google maps with my phone but that is about it. I find using my laptop for accessing the internet so much better for me.

    These stats are really quite surprising and really quite contradictable to what Google are usually telling us and that's mobile searches have surpassed desktop searches. If that is still the case and indeed there are more mobile searches than there are desktop searches, it's kind of surprising to think how only a low 27% of people use a smartphone only. But it also kind of makes sense if around 80% of all people going online use their mobile all the time.

    A lot more people are getting online using their mobile today, but at the same time, the amount of people using desktop computer use is going to be growing as well. As the population increases every decade and technology increases and comes down in price very fast. More people are getting online via their mobile but also more people have desktop computers now and will do in the future as well.

    Mobiles are great to have and serve a purpose but so do desktop computers which can do things a lot faster and do a lot more in a different, less compacted and claustrophobic way. Although mobiles devices are getting very advanced and powerful now and in the future they will no doubt become fully integrated into our lives from birth to death.

    What I would like to see is people eventually breaking away from the "screen". Somehow making the portable screen even more portable. Some kind of scrollable vinyl plastic or something that I could throw and slap against a wall or any surface that would roll up into a pen shaped device or something when I'm done with it. Or some thing that could somehow to create an image in front of me wherever I am in the air sort of like a holographic lazer generated screen if you will that I could touch and drag around and put wherever I wanted. Resize it and close it etc. You'd still probably need a device to power it though, smart watch powered or something.

    That would mean no more needing to lug around tablets, laptops or mobile devices. That would not only have many practical implications but probably be much kinder to the environment and Earth in the long run as well. Bring it on! 27 percent of people use only their smartphones

    With my social media experience, I think the number of cellphone users is more than double that 27%. In this digital age, it looks like portability is gaining ground. Even with computers, laptop users are dominant. Whenever we go abroad, we are dependent on the cellphone for our internet needs. And the number of cellphone users is increasing in number.

    I don't know about this study conducted by Google. However, when I analyze my Google traffic (the traffic coming from Google search), I find that a large percent of the visitors are checking my website through a hand held devices. They are using smartphones and tabs to access my website. There are also web visits, however, the visitors using a desktop/laptop are decreasing over the years.
    I use Google analytics, which provide data for traffic source, a device used, browsers used, traffic location etc.
