    How long should my service description be?

    So how long should my service descripton be? I know the longer the better but really sometimes everything that you need to say is said and well it is short right?

    Yeah as long as it needs to be! To say whatever it is you feel is important to say. Sometimes, less is more. Sometimes, too much is over kill. It's about striking the right balance. You need to say what it is they are getting, what you'll be doing for them at the very least of course.

    I find it's best to start with asking them a question first. Something that relates to a problem they are having. And then after explaining that in simple terms so it's something they can relate to, then going on to providing the solution to that problem by way if your description.

    So keep it short and sweet. But put those main things you want to say. You could break it down into sections if there are several things you'll be doing for them. And then title each section and go into a bit of detail about what you'll be doing for them in each part.

    Some people just put what it is in about 10-20 words. And that works for some people. Some people like to try and create a long and insightful landing page and that works and converts for them too. You have to go with what you think is best and then suck it and see!     I think short and to the point actually will help you get more sales! People feel sometimes I think that the longer a description is the more a seller is trying to prove their worth. I have learned that from Fiverr which I regretfully have to sell ReverbNation there because I cannot sell it here. But the shorter my service titles and the shorter descriptions on there the more sales I get lol! Services on here I don't know because I sell a lot no matter what lol!

    Thanks for the advice. I think the point here is really to get across what needs to be said without waffling on.

    Yeah I have to agree with anweb, personally I don't like long descriptions but it really depends on the service that you're selling. Just try to write all things that you will provide from that service, and make sure that your condition text is visible. For example, I'm using a simple infographic to describe the features of my software, and it's going very well so far.

    Yes I have seen that some sellers use great infographics and I like that. It looks really good and appeals to me.

    I think it is better to keep it as concise as possible so as to encourage prospective buyers to read through it all rather than feel discouraged by a chunk of text, and then not understanding fully what you are offering. Just make sure you provide all of the important details, and that's it.

    Thank you, yes I agree to be concise is good. I was just asking because I am sure someone said a while back that it is important to write a really long and detailed service description and I was wondering why.

    Yes I need to include all the important things that is included but I can't see the point in going really overboard with writing an essay!

    Depends on the service you are offering.
    But I do it like this:

    If I don't have much to say about the service because it's something simple and straight to the point, I don't write only one line, I do my best to provide 2-3 paraphrase in which I explain why my service is better compared with the other clients.

    If the service I'm providing is very complex and I have a lot to say and explain, I don't always go into to much details, keep in mind the attention span of potential clients is very short, they only scan your service description and only after they detect something interesting they read the whole description on what exactly are they gonna buy. So I provide an essential description with my main points, not going into unnecessary and boring details.

    This is a very good question and in my opinion it needs to be medium length to long. Why do i say that? We all know the dangers and the risks of shopping online in fact something you cant shop for online without looking at or touching it first. So how does a savy buyer make sure what he is buying is legit? Well that buyer is normally looking for a clear detailed description and it can be short but you have to make sure you have every single detail in the service so buyers know exactly what they are getting, and not only that a little something explaining your past feedbacks or what people are saying about you. These things are very important to convince the buyer that he/she should give you her money.

    Thanks Jkeyz2 How long should my service description be? I know what you mean. There are some services listed that are one sentence long and leave me with more questions that when I arrived lol.

    It doesn't really matter. Importance is to write what you really offer and what customer gets at the end. Also write some conditions. Longer description doesn't mean more sales. Your English is good and just be descriptive. Some nice and related images would be nice addition to it.
