Everyone talks about how the optimize a page for the search engines or how they tweaked the user interface, but that's not all you have to do in order to make your traffic happy.
Have you ever gone to a website and you can't seem to navigate it very well? I'm sure you have because there aren't many people who haven't. These types of websites are not user friendly at all. They're actually pretty annoying and see a super high bounce rate because of how they website is structured. You need to make it obvious and simple in order to please people. If someone has to jump through hoops just to read an article they've been looking for, you won't see them on your website for long lol

Thanks for these awesome tips Razzy! I am busy with making my website faster and more user friendly at the moment, so I am sucking up all the information on these topics right now.
I am unsure as to how to set out my website, at the moment I have someone optimizing my website for speed since it is oh so slow and then I will be taking a look at how my website is set up with menus etc.
So if you have any more golden nugget tips on these topics and you were wondering whether you should share them... well now is a really good time for me :) *wink*

Nice tips Razz! Nowadays responsive design is the most important thing when it comes to websites, because technology has evolved and website should be responsive as almost every year we see new devices on the market.
Responsive and adaptive design are both very important, because the percentage of mobile internet users these days has been increased a lot, and of course that content it is also important, because nobody will visit a responsive website with copy pasted content. :D
And personally I like those 404 pages so much, specially when they use memes. :D

Responsive Design
Without a doubt, in this age of multi sized devices that people access the Internet on. Having a responsive design is an absolute must. It doesn't really matter if you have a simple one page website, or a massive online store with tons of pages and posts. If you want to make your site accessible to as many people as possible regardless to the device they are using, responsive design is as important as your content. You put a lot of emphasis on your content. So it should look good and load right on any sized screen small and large. That's a given!
Short and Sweet Content
I get what you're saying in that it's good to have long content too. Because long content ranks higher naturally. But that doesn't mean you should fill up your posts with tons of filler content fluff. Be clear and concise, but don't overload your content pages and posts with tons of unnecessary content. People will likely just skim it. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. Say just what you need to say without diluting it and making people camp outside your website just to finish reading one article.
Freebies and Giveaways
Everyone loves a freebie! In fact, so much so that some websites wouldn't be half as successful as they are now unless they were giving away something free with it. In order to get someone to do something they sort-of might want to do. Offer a freebie reward with it. It will increase the chances of someone actually taking that step you're asking them to take. Knowing they'll get something out of it at the end.
Custom 404 Page
A good 404 page is a must for good web design today. Having a dull and lifeless and unhelpful 404 page isn't really going to help the person that was searching for something on your site. Where as a 404 page that offers the person something helpful such as a sitemap or even a search form or some links that could be related to what they were looking for will help to keep them on your site and increase your CTR. Plus when you use a funny meme or something. It helps people relate to it. It's a no brainer!
Other things you can do to keep people happy.
Wish Lists
Have you ever browsed a sites inventory or store and wished you could buy something but can't immediately afford it? Sure you could add it to the basket (if they have one) but it's better to let people add it to their wish list. A list of things they like on your site. You could do something similar for a site that doesn't even sell anything. A wish list of blog posts they might like to read on a future date or something.
Live Chat
Live chat forms on your site can be so very helpful to people visiting that site. But still many sites don't make full use of them. Either they don't have the staff and man power to employ someone to chat to people in real time. Or they just don't know how. But how many times have you browsed a site and had a question you want an instant answer for? It's long to send an email or send a message using their contact page. NameCheap make good use of their instant chat feature and it increases sales and productivity. You should learn from that!
So yeah. There's my take on it and a couple more to boot!
