    How does Youtube count the views?

    How does Youtube count the views? For instance, if someone visits video and does not completely watch the video, does that count as a view? Must you watch the entire video before the view counts?

    Here's how different social media video sites count video views.
    • YouTube: Views are counted after a video has been watched for around 30 seconds. Although this time is incremented if the same IP tries to view the video again up to 60 seconds and so on up to about 60 minutes.
    • Facebook: A view is counted when the video has been played for more than 3 seconds.
    • Instagram: Views aren't shared publicly but the site uses the same system as Facebook of anything more than 3 seconds being counted as a view.
    • Twitter: Works similar and counts a view as a view if the video has been viewed for at least 3 seconds.
    • Vine: Owned by Twitter, it also uses the same system although videos can loop for only 6 seconds. Views are called loops on Vine and only count when the full loop has been watched.

    Did you say a viewer should watch a video for 30 seconds in order to qualify for a view? I thought it was 15 seconds. I hear that 15 seconds of views will also validate an ad impression. I will have to check youtube TOS to find out.

    I'm not sure if they have changed this , but as I know Youtube will count a view after a user has watched the video for 30 seconds.

    I'm not sure how long a user has to watch exactly, but I know they don't have to watch the whole video. As such, if you ever buy youtube views on here, always check your video stats to see if the seller is delivering full length (or near) views, because that's what you want.

    I have been observing the counter of our latest video on Youtube and I was not really aware of the time. However, when I uploaded the video which means it has zero views, I played it just to check if everything is all right. The counter gave a count of 1. When I played it again for 5 seconds and quit, it registered a count of 2 which belies the claim that you need to watch the video for 30 seconds in order to be counted as a view.
