I have heard a number of members here mention link building in forums. So I am just wondering if anyone would be keen to share some of their favorite forums link link building?
I haven't joined any forums for years so I don't know of any that I would find useful for this. There has also been mention of being able to add your link to your tagline, which forums allow this?
Do you have to be part of the forum for a while and then earn this privilege with time and adding quality discussions?
How many discussion forums are you part of and how often do you visit and join in?

Probably about 50+ Internet Marketing forums. And possibly hundreds of others in many different niches as well that I've joined over the years. To be honest I need to get back into the forum marketing and promotion thing just to promote SEOClerks as an affiliate!

Some people have been doing foruming for many years and have very old, established accounts on some of the biggest forums in their industry. Remember forums were the first type of social networking site before the social networking sites of today! To some of those people they are their main source or large part of their income and go on getting them traffic, clicks, sales/conversions from their posts.
For this reason, foruming can be very quite lucrative for someone that gets into it and does it consistently and correctly. It's all about building up a name for yourself first. By being helpful and that and being a regular user/poster. Never stepping on anyone's toes and only earning more and more respect for your outstanding contribution to that forum community.
Then in time, when you have the respect and the rights and privilege, posting your offers, services etc. Dropping more of your sites links in your well formed posts/replies etc without doing it too much blatantly but when it's a good time to. Some forum threads can last for years but can go on to become bigger in time as well and thus rank higher too in the SERPs.
I could go on about the benefits to it but really it's like anything. Results only come from correct consistent use of it. The more you chip away, the bigger you become. The more posts you create yourself, the more chances there are of dropping links in those posts.
But just don't go OTT and start joining loads of forums in your niche and then just posting quick duff posts with links in them that wont work and is something Sanfora would do hahahaha o
When I launch a new site. Or even sometimes when I want to sell one of my sites. I'll sometimes post my site as a post to some of the top Internet marketing sites to announce it, ask for reviews, questions etc on it or to list it for sale. That way, I get a link from a post on one of the top Internet marketing forums, get a link in the post to my site, and drum up some notice of it at the same time. Sometimes I'll even use them to list some of my sites for sale even though they are not just to get a link but also to "test the water" if you know what I mean.
But I'll also try to join some forums that are in that niche as well. I'll literally search for "niche keyword forums" and see what comes up. Sometimes I may even join them in advance to registering a domain or starting a business so that I can do some of that initial building up of my peon account into something that is somewhat developed so I have more respect when I do post to it later on.
The reason why is simple. Relevancy. Related links. I can build high quality relevant and related links to my site from sites that are in the same niche as my site is in. Each one of them, especially if it's a natural do follow keyword friendly link that is getting me traffic!
It sounds like a lot of work. Sure. Meh, yeah and no. It only takes a few seconds to register to a forum. And you only need to spend 5-10 mins minimum a day really every day or every now and then. It will take dedicated work yes but like said, it's one of those things that is worth having and nothing worth having is ever easy to come by!

It doesn't matter that you haven't joined any forums in years. The process is still just about the same as foruming is an old technology and hasn't really evolved much up to now. Although there are some good forums out there and modern looking and easy to use today. And they're a bit easier to use/register/login using some social profile login, fb, twitter etc. Most good forums have that option.
You have to ask why is it you are doing this again though? So you can build some links to your site right? But not just any old links. Links from high authority forums that are in the same niche as yours. These are worth doing all this for.
That and if you do gain the respect as an authority and expert in your industry, niche or business and people like you. Foruming can be very effective for gaining tons of traffic, links, sales and conversions for life. Provided the forums stay up!
Most big ones do though and get bigger in time too.
Yep. Start by adding quality replies to peoples posts. Answer their questions helpfully and expertly. Introduce yourself, engage with other people, start following people (if it allows it), reach out to people. Try to figure out who the big users are, get their respect. Keep going in that direction and grow with the community because what you put into it could be directly correlated with what you get out!
