SEO is the optimizing of your website so that it has better results in the search engines.
SEM is the sharing of your content on websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

SEO stands for search engine optimization that is a method to get a high ranking in the search list of the search engines that will produce traffic to your site. SMO is social media optimization to promote your site and therefore increase traffic from the reactions of the readers in social media like Facebook and Twitter.
