    Google plus - why isn't it dead yet?

    This is the change (in percentages) of total shares by social media platforms from 2014 to 2016:

    As you can clearly notice in the above statistic, Google+'s shares are down -93% in the last two years. This is a total devastation for Google plus if you ask me, it shows once again that the little community it had are going away, little by little G+ will be another failed social media attempt by Google.

    But I expected this from G+. The unexpected thing in this statistic is Pinterest! -70% down in shares, although I think Pinterest is actually normalizing and won't go away soon because it has a very specific and niche functionality that no other social networked managed to develop.

    What do you think? Is G+ dead and buried? Should Google just give up on the project?
    Do you think Pinterest will survive in the future?

    Google plus was a failed attempt at competing with Facebook lol Google plus - why isn I don't know what Google was thinking when they launched it. I've got accounts on G+ for all of my websites, but that's only because I didn't want anyone taking my business/website name and pretending to be me haha. I don't think I've actually been on G+ for more than an 2 hours trying to do marketing. It's full of people from third world countries and all they're doing is spamming around trying to get a random sale here and there.

    Google plus should have been abandoned a while ago. It's pretty funny that everyone who had an active gmail account was automatically registered on G+ and they still didn't have much activity Google plus - why isn

    I too was king of shocked when I saw your info on pinterest. I didn't know they were hurting that bad Google plus - why isn I wonder what the exact reason for their 70% loss is. Maybe the main people on there are marketers and don't want to share other peoples stuff lol. I'm not too big into pinterest so I wouldn't really know.     I think both Google plus and Pinterest will survive for the sole reason that they have a big bank roll behind them. Pinterest has a ton of private investors and Google Plus has adwords to fund it's servers and day to day actions. I doubt they'll go a way, if they do, it won't be for a long time.

    Interesting. I don't think it's dead and buried no. Dying maybe but not quite dead and buried yet. Sure share might be down, but Google+ is still a money spinner for Google. They still earn more from it than it costs to keep and run apparently. Through ads and that but perhaps they should have launched some features for people to boost posts and stuff like that which Facebook have been doing for a long time already. Why Google haven't introduced that to Google+ is not easy to tell but they don't like to copy people and try to be original.

    I think Pinterest is pinning all its hopes on its new video ads service but they already have a lot going for them just in terms of the amount of money the average Pinterest user spends is much more higher than the average spend other social media site users spend. Plus now with their new video ads service that should increase Pinterest's place as a high value advertising site for a while.

    I think if we can learn anything from this it's that you need to provide something not just for the users of the site, but also for those that want to advertise on that site as well and that's something Google+, unlike most other social media sites have done in the past, haven't.

    Google+ could you take a leaf out of their book?

    Well yeah, maybe at the moment, but something tells me that won't be happening 2-3 years into the future. Thing is, I don't understand Google's manic tendencies with letting cool service just slowly die.

    Google did this with a bunch of services, some of them really had potential, only if someone with vision came along to restructure and give it a new purpose.
    If we were talking about any other company, well yeah, whatever, I would have understood. But it's Google we're talking about, they have almost unlimited recourses compared with other companies!

    I really hope they ditch it. It sucks, and the only reason I have a google plus page, is because I was forced to in order to create my youtube channel. I never use it though.

    Google Plus actually have nice features but from beginning it looked without soul. People is not socializing much on Google +, but using it for sole purpose to get social signals and attention by search engine crawlers, so this doesn't surprise me that real interest in G+ is dropping, if this statistics are right. G+ may stay around for long time, but i doubt it will ever become interesting site for users to stick around, browse, communicate and have fun.

    Oh I am surprised by Pinterest! I really thought that they were a growing and highly popular social network, so seeing them down 70% in shares is a surprise. Pinterest has a really unique look and feel, that I honestly thought loads of people were hooked on. I am on Pinterest and I barely spend any time there. I have my Pinterest account and I pin all my new content straight from my website but I barely actually log on. So maybe lots of people do this too? Just send their content and leave it?

    I am not surprised at all by Google Plus's shares being down by over 90% and this is because I find Google Plus just plain boring. I am not sure why Google Plus holds no appeal whatsoever for me, it just seems to have no soul. I share my content to Google Plus but I never ever spend any time on there. I used to, in an effort to interact with people purely to get my Google Plus accounts more active and noticed but it was too boring for me. I gave up!

    I have pretty much all of the social media accounts and will say that for me Google is pretty much a waste of time. I rarely log in and only use RSS feeds to post there. The same holds true with Pinterest and a few others.

    Based on the graph provided by Christian: Did you know that the top social media platforms are owned by the same people? The venture capital and private equity companies who invest in the social media platforms are always the same players (investors) behind the scenes. I always wondered about how this could be a conflict of interest for smaller investors. Here is why. As an accredited and majority investor you will have a board seat(s) for all of the companies for which you invested. As a board member you have the ability to steer the company in any direction you wish. With this control you could then facilitate artificial winners and losers. Also, having advanced knowledge of what share prices will do you could maximize returns on your investments.

    Google+ is already dead as a social network, if we compare it with facebook or twitter. Apparently there are 2.2 millions accounts registered on Google+, but the reason is because once you register a gmail account you are automatically registered on G+.

    I really don’t want to believe that “social network” is owned by Google, I mean, it sounds impossible since Google it is a giant company, and they have everything in hand to build something more better than that thing called Google+.

    I would not say it is dead, but if nothing is done to have it recuperate it will soon be I believe. As pointed out by others Google Plus cannot compete with Facebook for instance. I just do not see it as being an up to date social network. There are several people who do have a Google Plus account, but it is only for the sake of having one because everybody else seems to have one. But it is purely out of habit sort of, not because they make any active social use out of it.

    We all know that Google Plus is owned by the richest website in the internet and it can spend money as long as it likes. It is similar to the tv network here which is owned by the largest telecommunications company. The tv network has been losing for more than 5 years now and the losses are in billions of pesos, that’s hundreds of millions of dollars in a year but it is still operating in full blast. With Google Plus, I think it is just waiting for a good timing to go full blast.

    I agree. Google is the largest search engine on the planet. It has more then 70% of the globe using it. Its hard to understand why it can't get google plus to work. I have used google plus on several occasions I think its biggest problem is its interface. It's basic and simplistic and it does nothing to attract you to use it. I don't think Google care's to be honest because they make enough money from advertising on their search engine.
