Firing 28% of your employees, or laying off as the higher ups will want it put, is a pretty big move for Moz. The best thing is that the CEO of Moz, Sarah Bird, said that they will be helping the 28% of people find their next positions so that they aren't just left high and dry.
There are currently 220 people working for Moz.com so that means they will be letting go of around 61 or 62 people leaving them with 158 to 159 employees. I wonder if Moz.com will be able to function the same way after letting go of so many people.
If Moz.com is focusing more on SEO now and can let go of so many people, what were those people doing in the first place that they were so easily let go? I would assume they're more of an offline sector that focused on events and outings to bring in bigger clients and not in the online marketing sector which consists of SEO and other things.
Some people say that "SEO is Dead!" but that's not true at all. The ones who say it's dead are the ones who can't hack it online 
Moz understands the power of SEO and if such a large company is focusing more on the SEO side of things, shouldn't we all? They have teams of people who focus on this and I'm sure they're some of the "best of the best" in the world. I'm not saying to be a follower, but I am telling everyone not to be stubborn and watch what the bigger companies are doing because they can usually spot trends and other hot topics before we can because they have 10+ people doing the same thing and we're lone rangers usually
What do you guys and girls think about this?
Is it the right move to lay off 28% of their staff and focus more on SEO?

People who say SEO is dead is like when people were saying Hip Hop was dead. It never died. It was just that they couldn't find the same success as other Hip Hop artists did in the past and just jealous and hating on the game lol. That's how it is now for people who say SEO is dead. SEO ain't dead. Hello! The only people that say that today are those that don't know SEO and how to do it LOL!
But it's true what you say. Like they say, "Two heads are better than one". In the case of a brand like Moz, 220 heads. But now they only apparently need 158 heads. That's probably because where as before it took more people to do different things. Overtime, some of those people have learned the skills the others did and they've refined the process so that they can do the same thing without having to employ and pay the wages of the same amount of people. They can get the same things done with less people.
It sounds like smart business to me really.
Mike. Well things change in the world of SEO that much we know to be true! And just like things change in the real world with business, no business is susceptible to change. Either they expand or they reduce. That can happen to any business that takes on more than it can chew and has invested in things that are no longer profitable to them but still have the workforce and infrastructure in place and that means paying out for that but not earning enough to cover paying for that and making a profit. Despite all the work they are doing. Whatever work it is those 220 people are (or were) doing lol. I'm sure they (those people) are big enough, ugly enough and skilled and experienced enough to find work for someone else though! Some other SEO agency of similar size and stature to Moz.com. I mean, that's quite an impressive thing to have on your resume you know? :) People who say SEO is dead is like when people were saying Hip Hop was dead. It never died.
