Hello guys. There are many forum softwares out there today. Some old that are still good, some new that look okay. But which one is the best for a large forum? Does a large forum need to have a lot of features for the users of it or do features not really matter that much? I've been looking at some forum software reviews and comparisons and most are saying that XenForo and IPBoard are the best 2 of them all followed by VBulletin. Then in some other reviews and comparisons, some say that phpBB is the best next to MyBB. I've been leaning towards XenForo but it's definitely the most priciest of them all. Do you have any experience in this on which one is the best for a large forum or one you can personally recommend for a large forum?
Also, another thing, some people sell their forum licenses. Is this allowed by the forum script developers? Is it worth doing that or just buying the license yourself?

I had a forum on my one website a while back but I have no idea how it was set up because my web developers did that all for me.
Do you think that having a forum added to your website is a great way to generate more content and improve rankings? Surely forums take a massive amount of work? I remember giving up on my forum simply because most of the time I felt like I was talking to empty space, and damn was there an echo!
I found it taking up so much of my time that I just couldn't keep up with it because my main business was an online store. I had so much hope for a really cool mommy forum but it just never happened :(
