I always wanted to do this as far as I can remember in my SEO career.
To actually test keywords related to future events by developing a niched websites filled with related content.
For example: Right after they would have announced that Brazil is the next country to hold the Olympic Games I should had bought a related domain and started writing about new regarding this event as well as review and articles on the all the top athletes that are going to compete with one-another in this event, especially the ones that are likely to get cold medals, everyone is going to search about them when they get one!
Same things for Pokemon Go. I've seen a lot of news about the beta release but I never thought this would become so popular all over the old.
Anyways, has any of you did anything similar? Does Google really value when you are the first to report on something? It makes sense that if you are the first to write about a certain topic, you may get a lot of backlinks and therefore Google will see you as positive information and will rank you accordantly.
But what about content that it isn't shared and backlinked but is the FIRST? Will Google still rank it good when everybody starts writing on this subject?
Does Google really value when you are the first to report on something?Yes! That's the way Google has worked since day 1. And it's probably the way it always will work. In that it ranks the content it finds first before any other content that is the same that is found after. That is why if you copy an article from another site and place it on your own site, same title, same content etc. Then Google will rank the original version of it that it found first. However, the site that copies that article can still outrank it. And that's done with backlinks. If it has enough backlinks to it (more than the original has) and those backlinks contain the keywords that are what it's about and related to it and there is more of them than the original version has, then Google will often give that duplicate article more presidency and better ranking in the SERPS.
But what about content that it isn't shared and backlinked but is the FIRST? Will Google still rank it good when everybody starts writing on this subject?Yes as said but it all depends on who has the most authority linking into that content. Even if you're the first to write about something. Other sites that have a lot of authority can write about it and Google will rank them high for it because by nature, they are an authority site. And in some cases, rank them for it higher than the original if it has those all important more backlinks than you do.

Oh by the way if you're looking for something to get in now that is definitely going to be big in the future, then I was reading something the other day about [b]space mining[/b]. I know seems silly on the face of it right? But it's actually very legitimate and not just for mining asteroids in space but for owning mineral rights on close planets like Ceres and it's looking to be a billion dollar industry. Not as whacky as it sounds. NASA are working with asteroid mining companies to get to and mine Ceres for its minerals. The thing is you can buy plots of land on this planet with mineral rights and when it comes to them actually mining it in the future, you would earn money selling the rights or making a commission from the minerals extracted and sold and used back on Earth. I have a few news related websites, and not like world news, more of stuff in certain niches that's going on or about to happen. A while back I had a diablo III website up and running when the news was dropped that the game was going to be in developement. When I heard the news I sprung into action because I've played every diablo game and most of blizzards games in general. I added whatever content I could, I even added content that covered the previous games so that I could pull in traffic from those keywords. I would target the bosses names, armor sets, weapons, etc. and try to rank for them as quick as I could without getting penalized. After maybe 2 months I started to see the traffic come in for the diablo website and I was super happy. It wasn't a flood like I had hoped, but it was good enough to keep me going lol.
Fast forward to a month before the game is about to drop and I'm still sitting pretty on the first page because of all the natural links I've gained from people sharing what I wrote about. This was my first gaming website so I wasn't exactly sure how to run it, but it wasn't difficult lol. It was basically a blog with fancy images.
After the game launched I was still on the first page, but I was now fighting bigger companies like IGN
Google does show love to those who have been writing about a topic for a while, so I think we all should launch websites when we hear news of a big launch
