What are you doing, when you realize it's time to take a step back..?

I would rather not specify the exact reasons that I had to "leave" for awhile.. I'm back and now I've finally managed to do things so I won't have to spend 15 hours per day 7 days a week.. I can take a break too! (I will do that during the weekends mostly.)

However, what are you doing, when you realize it's time to take a step back..?

Working 15 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year doesn't work.. I've almost been there and it doesn't work at all. I became even more depressed, felt guilt and anxiety.. And truth to be told. I've suffered from panic anxiety since the day my father passed and I tried to deal with things in my own way.. By working. This has been going on for almost 4 years now.

I finally came to the conclusion, that it just wasn't worth it. I will have some FREE time too! - Have you ever been in a similar situation?

When did you realize it was time to take a step back? - Did you realize it?

I too have done the 18 hour days, seven days a week for many years. All that I can say is that it isn't worth it! Nothing good will come from working like this. I realized this years ago and made fundamental changes in my life headed towards the opposite end of the spectrum. I am not saying that I don't work but I do limit my total number of work hours. As a child I was brought up to work hard but work smart. Use of automation or working smart now plays a huge role in my life and allows me more personal freedom and guess what? I am very happy. I am a firm believer that everyone needs a balanced life between your family, work and play. Do your best to keep these things in equilibrium and you will be much happier and more productive in life in general.

I've been working 14 hours a day on my websites. Programming softwares to make my websites more easy to handle. (Seo etc). To be honest until I see results I'll be demotivated. SEO really is a waiting game and it's driving me crazy. All my sites get indexed (3400 results on google) however I'm usually on second - 5th page.

Also let me give you a tip.. When my site works out (the seo). It's basically autopilot money for me. So I suggest you to work smart not hard. You must've heard that phrase before.

I'm currently programming a software for my second website, and after that I need to make one more...

Anyway, as I said work smart not hard

I have suffered from burn out a few times and it is not pleasant. I believe it is important every now and then to take a step back and evaluate your life.

If you have been working like crazy since your dad passed away you have most likely been trying to avoid dealing with those horrible feelings. However this is not a healthy way of coping. At some stage it will catch up with you in some way.

I am not judging here, I have done similar things all my life.

Through my experiences I have now learned how to monitor myself better and I am much kinder to myself.

Working so hard and not taking a break will most likely not result in more work getting done, it will result in a certain amount of work being done and then your brain will probably become foggy LOL.

I suggest working shorter hours and less days, making sure you work hard and efficiently during that time and when you are off make sure you are off. Enjoy yourself and turn your working head off.

Sometimes I overdue on freelancing, I also have a day job so doing freelancing is extra work for me. It's very important to manage your time and MAKE time to relax and have some fun.

I did exactly that, this weekend, went to see a movie, went to a club and had some drinks but also went to the beach, both days.
You need to have a goal. I'm doing freelancing work at the moment because I want to do a couple of very important changes in the next 2 years and I really need the money.

So I'll make the sacrifice of working extra almost every day as well as in weekends. I will probably have the make a choice between freelancing and a 9 to 6 job at one point in the future though. Don't know which one to choose because both of them are going well at the moment.

Well Cristian you are incredibly fortunate to not only have the choice of which one you would like but also to be in a position where you like both and they are obviously both paying nicely. There are so many people that just don't have these choices, they might not even know there is another way.

I am fortunate to have a full time office job and freelancing is just a sideline work. And although I am still enjoying it, there are times that I feel like quitting especially when I receive an unfair rating. So maybe when I get fed up with such low and unfair rating, that would be the day to stop.
