I was a big fan of Google Reader back in the day. I still can't understand why Google decided to drop such a useful and successful service.
Anyways, I've went for a couple of years without a main feed aggregator, until a workmate recommend Feedly. Great application for both desktop and mobile, not as good as Google Reader in my opinion but its still pretty damn efficient in providing me with feeds on all my news websites and blogs I follow.
What do you guys use as a feed aggregator/ main reader If you use anything at all.

I only use RSS feeds to send out my [b](s e o c h e c k o u t. c o m) [/b]affiliate links to social media. I use buffer.com - twitterfeed.com anf IFTTT.com for automating affiliate marketing. This is all I do with RSS feeds at the moment. Other ideas welcome! :)

I didn't use feed generators for long time... Since big boost of presence of social media networks, it was easier to follow latest news via social media then feed generators i guess. But i remember when it was very good way to read latest posts via generators. Now, i guess not many people using them, or maybe i am wrong, not sure :)

The main problem was the rise of social media sites like Facebook which people were turning to for the latest news and to follow those sites fanpages they most liked or are following for research as a competitor because they are already using Facebook anyway. Also Google wanted to try and drive more traffic to their own Google+ social networking site which hasn't taken off as well as the other big ones have.
There are some fairly good Google Reader alternatives today including Feedly, NewsBlur, NetVibes, Pulse & Flipboard. One called The Old Reader and even Digg Reader isn't bad and does the same job as Google Reader did pretty much! You used to be able to export all your old subscriptions and data from Google Reader using Google Takeout but I think the sunset period they gave has ended now.
But for all of these, not as many people are using them as they used to. These were more for the old school net users like you and me but the newer generation of net users are using social media sites more now instead of subscribing to sites and blogs feeds in a reader.
