Website pinging for ranking

If you ping a website, will that boost the ranking? This worked in the old days, what about now?

Hi Sanfora, I'm not sure that Pinging ever worked to increase your ranking on it's own. I'm not sure how they would have worked in the old days to rank your site. I mean, how can sending a notification to a Search Engine bot help you to gain any ranking in the SERPS? It's many things that improve your rank with the main one being your backlinks. Each backlink is seen as a "vote" from another site to yours or a recommendation even. With no backlinks/votes or recommendations or citations of your site from any other site, it doesn't matter how many times you ping your website it wont make one iota of change to your ranking in the search engines.

That said, it can mean that it can speed up just how quick that search engine such as Google can visit/crawl and index your content which is useful for if you have a lot of URLs that aren't indexed in Google and other search engines and you want them to be. But sending a ping notification is no guarantee that they will visit/crawl that URL, on that day. It only tells them that there's new a new URL/content to crawl. It doesn't guarantee it will be! They could even chose not to, because they choose to pool their resources and only have so many to use.

You can think of Pinging not rather unlike some guy sitting at his desk with an Inbox and an Outbox. And he has to enter the data from the files in his Inbox tray on his desk into his PC and stamp them as done/checked and put them in the Outbox tray. When you send a Ping, you're putting your URL onto a really long list of other URL's and the Search Engine is working it's way through that list by sending out spiders to it based on the location of that URL. Spiders are basically servers and although Google has a billion datacenters now around the world, it only has so many that are near you that it will use and they might be in use crawling other sites and there's no guarantee they ever even will get round to you because your site might not be of much importance to it if it's not a big already established authority site for eg.

Are You Pinging Too Much?

Another thing to consider is over pinging. This is when the webmaster will ping the same URL or site multiple times from the same IP too much and if you do that too much it can get your IP address and URL listed as ping spam and that can subsequently get your IP and URL blocked from being pinged. You can do it but they'll ignore it. So pinging too much can get you blocked as well.

But that's just something worth mentioning here in case you feel like going out and mass pinging your URLs over and over again. It could just be working against you. If you use WP it will auto ping Pingomatic for you which pings all the Google blogs for you each time you post a new post on your site for you so there is no need to ping anything just press publish and it's done.

But no it wont boost a sites ranking by pinging it not at all.

It's good on-page (content, internal links, structure etc) and off-page SEO (backlinks, social count etc) that count!

Hope this helps. Website pinging for ranking

No... well not really, kind of sort of, Lol Website pinging for ranking You can use ping with a referral URL to get traffic. How? This can be used to get people who look at stats to visit your site to see where the traffic is coming from when they see your referral link in their stats. I did this and got 12M+ visits and a couple of bad reviews. If you want to show up on Google analytics you need "Google pass proxies" and other things to actually show up. It is always getting harder to execute this type of referral pings with search engines or to get proxies that actually defeat Google's detection. You can also use a ping for search engines to let them know that your site has been updated, but go easy! It does work with moderation. If you are slick and find other distribution channels that won't block the ping then you can make a fortune.

Well, Pinging is just like a notification about changes that were made in a site. However as far as I know Pinging will not help your website to get backlinks, and neither to improve ranking in search engines. It is just as if you are giving a nudge to search engines so as to inform them that you website has been changed or updated in one way or another. It could help a site to get indexed a bit faster, but even that is not guaranteed. Over pinging is not recommended, and if you really want to boost your ranking you should focus on building backlinks for instance, not on pinging.

Pinging the website won't boot any rankings. Not even indexing a new page with pinging works anymore. I prefer using "fetch as google" from the Google Search Console. Gets my new articles index in minutes.

Well I heard a while back that pinging helped with ranking your website content, so I have it on my checklist of things to do immediately after publishing my content.

Now I heard recently here that pinging does nothing so now I get all confused by it. The thing that gets me is that my content gets ranked usually fast and well, and that was included in my method so I can't see that it hurts your website?

I use Pingoat and well I can't answer your question for sure but I always do it and I am going to just keep doing it.

Hi sanfora thanks for your question. It has debate is ping really worked for search ranking or not? Many webmaster thinking ping is working for getting search ranking and other thinking this is not help much for getting search ranking except backlink. My consideration support always second one. If you only ping your site without good amount of quality backlink, your website never be count on Google for search ranking. So, I think only good SEO planning help to your site for getting search ranking. Do, good on-page and off-page SEO by yourself or from other SEO expert, that may help to increase your site on search ranking.

My understanding of the ping function is just to check if the particular IP address is working or the site is online. That was our way of checking our office site when it was being tested. Maybe you got the idea that it can affect the ranking because pinging is like accessing the site. But I guess it is accessing the site in a different way so a ping does not necessarily equate to traffic.
