    What other marketing methods can you use apart from social media?

    I would like to know, what if social media did not exist how would a simple business owner you know be able to market my product or get the word around in the absence of the free advertising on social media?

    That's a good point, imagine if social media didn't exist. I guess we'd all still be using forums for marketing purposes and paying for advertisements on blogs and other websites. Quite simply, without social media, your only other hope is to do SEO and get good rankings as a way to become known about. And then it will mean advertising on other similar, related sites and blogs. I think without it, I'd probably do a lot more of that and look into other ways as well such as article marketing, guest posting and link directory submission. Those are some things you should really be doing as well anyway regardless to if social media exists or not. But without it, that's probably what I'd do. I guess we could put together a list of the things you can do to advertise and market your website without social media, that could be useful.

    The first thought when I read this was - that is difficult! And then I realized that some years ago we did not get to use social media. What we did was mainly related to SEO, article marketing, and paid adverts on online directories etc. It also demonstrates how far we have all ended up relying on social media marketing. Having said that it is important to avoid focusing on it only as other methods are extremely important too. Social media is actually the easier and more straightforward way to go about it I guess as you can reach out to customers much more easily.

    I'm glad that you mentioned this. Some new marketers primarily focus just on social media as they believe that's where they would get their sales from. However, it's only one of many places. People need to realize that social media is NOT the only place to advertise!

    Yes, I feel it is a very common tendency for marketers to base too much of their overall efforts on social media. It seems that this has led to a reduction in the use of other online advertising methods as well as SEO techniques, article marketing, forum posts and paid to click.

    I like it! see this is what i mean by thinking outside the box its true there was a point in time were we did not have social media as a marketing tool, and its thinking about past times like these that can really get the ball going for the future and any marketing taken care of in the future see what it is , a business owner knows how too sell his product but a smart business owner can sell his product multiple ways and that my friend is key , keys too success elite writer thanks for your comment

    Well email marketing is a great way to market. I think it is about spreading your marketing efforts and not just focusing one way.

    That's true. But then, how do you get email subscribers for your email newsletters and things? Of course, you get them by getting the people on your site first. But how can you get people on your site to subscribe if you can't use social media sites? I think a good thing to do would be try to find alternative ways of marketing and advertising without using social media. You might be surprised with what you can come up with! What other marketing methods can you use apart from social media?

    see i have a few concerns and issue with email marketing , do not get me wrong a simple email could go a long way but how do you make sure that email is reaching the right people, see from my knowledge a lot of emails well in this case forward emails since were talking about emailing multiple people get flagged as spam as soon as it hits the inbox and being that these emails get flagged as spam its hard to keep track on who you your actually reaching and who your not and that could potentially damage business

    Well sure! A lot of people don't get them. That's why you want double opt in subscribers that will white list your email so that they end up in their INBOX and not the spambox. Also, it could indeed upset some people but only really if you're emailing people you have no right to or haven't asked for your emails. The thing is, its a grey area, I mean, some of those people may have signed up to someone else's email list who's terms may have stated that they may give your email address to someone else or the offers and products and things that are sent may change from time to time and these are often included in the small print of that sites terms and conditions and honestly who checks this before subscribing somewhere? Not many people do! And most people who get them kind of emails have done so at some point so aren't so mindful of them but there is always that small amount of people who will get them and should not be and that can backfire on you if they raise a complaint to your ISP or manager or something. However, that doesn't stop people from doing it! The reason people still do email marketing today despite emails being the oldest form of advertising and marketing is because they still work! Otherwise if people didn't get them and didn't but the things in them that are relevant to their interests, people wouldn't do it. But it does and they do and so hence why as long as there are emails, people will be sending them! ;)

    Apart from social media, you can do search engine marketing to gain traffic. If you start a campaign on Adwords, your website will appear on paid search list on Google search. The searchers might check your link if they find it interesting.
    You can also market through email marketing. In order to do email marketing you need an email list and account on email service. You can use mailcheap for email marketing.

    In the days when there was no social media to speak of yet, the main marketing way was by email. I remember when my husband promoted their office website, he used the email for the purpose. And so as not to appear as scam, he was so creative with the email that most of those who received the promotional email was intrigued with the website so they clicked on the link. I think they got hundreds of new readers everyday just with the use of the emailing system in promoting their office website.
