    Programmers: What was the first script you coded?

    I've always been fascinated with programming. It's fun, and sometimes it's hard. My first script I coded was an MMORPG script. The script was a little basic, but I thought it was fun. The website wasn't really a success, however I did have a couple people playing the game. The game was coded with PHP, and it took me about a month to complete. I wish I still had this script, but unfortunately the hosting account I used was suspended due to nonpayment and the computer I programmed the script on eventually dead completely. The hard drive was fried, and I tried to recover it but only bits and pieces were salvageable.

    I want to know what was the first script you coded. What language did you code it in? Was the script eventually used on a website? If the script was used on a website, was the website successful?

    Can you explain the reasoning you created your first script? How did you learn to code? Did you learn from a school or by yourself? How long did it take you to finish the script?

    6 Months to complete - Permutation programing N1 X N2 X N3 ~ implemented with a library for text that was spun at a 90 unique rate, 100% unique page titles, meta descriptions, keywords alt text, picture titles and a site map and much more. Multiple websites - domains were used and each site created a minimum of 197 Million unique spider-able pages. Ads and affiliate links were implemented on the websites to create a multi-tier sales platform, just for me. The search engines were actually spidering and indexing my site faster than many of the largest global news organizations. I got results in an little as a few minutes up to 8 hours, again I took all 15 pages of Google, Yahoo and Bing. Yes, it is now considered spammy but it worked at the time and was more of a test of what makes the needle move than a money making opportunity. The end result is I took entire pages on all the search engines from page 1 through page 15+ which lasted for as long as I kept the domain live. Yes, I made a lot of sales but I shut it down after a while because I got bored and wanted to do other projects.

    It isn’t really a script but the only thing I coded was a simple random generator using PHP. I didn’t have any style and it was purely just a random generator on a blank page. It wasn’t great but it was a good experience and I actually like troubleshooting it when I had problems. I probably won’t enjoy it when I work on larger projects though and have pages and pages of code to look through. When I get better at coding, I will probably code a MMORPG script too but that will probably be at least a few months down the line.

    I took a short php course to get all the basics and foundation. Then I use online resources to learn more advanced methods but mainly it was trial and error with online resources. There are many resources online and you can learn coding so easily now.

    I think the biggest thing I coded when I was a begginer was a Tic Tac Toe game which took me around a month to make but I was really proud of it. I wrote it in HTML/CSS/JS and did everything from the front-end to back-end to UX. It was a good learning experience.

    I'm a programming hobbyist and the first code I've written was a simple dice game. I used Python 3 to create it. It was fun because we were able to use it for our reality game at a sports club. Now I know a lot more programming languages and I'm very excited to create my next website using my knowledge of HTML5/CSS3/JS/Angular/PHP.

    I have no knowledge of the programming for small computers except the BASIC that was used by the first IBM PC. My background in programming is the COBOL for mainframe which is not as complicated as the coding now. I was not really a programmer but was just given the privilege to attend a programming course by our office. I graduated and had made around 5 programs because I had a plan of moving to the programming section which did not materialize.
