What’s the next big social network?

Anyone have the inside scoop, an educated guess or an uneducated guess about what the next GIANT in social media will be?

I’m talking BIG. Think Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Household name big. Like, “my dad knows about it” big.

Will it be something similar to what we already have, or will there be a brand NEW format... and most importantly: How and when do we get in?! What’s the next big social network?

I’d love to hear your ideas. Please feel free to throw in graphs, recent research and stats, and remember to site your sources. Nerd it up! If we put our heads together, we might just get somewhere.

Sometimes I look at the VC market and see what companies are getting funded. This is a good indicator for what is coming in the near future. Plus you get to hear about all the new ideas, platforms, business models and more. I sometime use this info as a muse for my own ideas. Generally, companies that are properly funded by venture capital or private equity firms are the ones which have an increased chance to "Take Off". It is extremely rare to see a non-funded company succeed to the stratospheric levels of a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Groupon etc...

On another note but same subject: We have two platforms that are currently in development and are about 90% complete. We are in the quite phase so, I can't tell you about it until once we are in beta. If you like, I can send you an invite when we are ready? Maybe you would like to help us and be a beta tester and get an inside scoop? It is a 100% unique and potentially disruptive technology. Maybe we will be the next big thing. Steemit! (steemit.com) is the current next be Internet phenomenon that is taking off massively right now. Steemit is a blockchain social networking site that rewards its users for contributing. Unlike the giant greedy fat cat corporations that only want to make and take money from its users like Facebook, Twitter etc etc. Steemit rewards its users and pays them back for their contributions to the site in Steem dollars which can be exchanged for real cash.

People are saying that getting involved with Steemit now is like getting involved with the Dow when that was first out. Those initial early investors are the ones that are going to benefit the most from Steemit later on down the line. It does have quite a steep learning curve, and some people can't quite understand how it works from the start. But one thing about Steemit is that you can just go with the flow. Just sign up and start posting amazing high quality articles to the site which other people can upvote. The more upvotes you get, the more Steem dollars your posts are worth which you can then eventually exchange for other bc currencies and exchange for real dollars of course.
What is Steemit?

Steemit is much more than a money-making opportunity. It is a decentralized social media site, like Facebook or Reddit, but without a big company at the top that sucks out profits. Steemit uses a new model for social media, relying on people instead of advertising. Users post content, link content from other sites, and help to curate it by upvoting the best content to everyone else’s attention. That puts it beyond the control of greedy corporations, large media conglomerates, and repressive governments. It is the first social media site that’s truly free of these controls.

Steemit runs on the blockchain, the same technology that powers Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The blockchain allows information and transactions to be verified quickly, securely, and automatically. Because the site can pay you automatically, there is no need for a big corporate infrastructure, and there is no corporation to run away with your profits. You are paid in STEEM dollars, a price stable token that is always worth about $1 and can be converted to Bitcoin or regular money. You are also rewarded with greater voting power and a stake in Steemit’s growth each time you post and vote on good content.

Taken from an Amazon eBook I found on Steemit which can be downloaded for free here (not an affiliate link)

https://www.amazon.com/Steemit-101-Discover-Social-Content-ebook/dp/B01HC47NLU/

Read more about Steemit in my post Have you discovered Steemit yet?

So yeah, Steemit, I think is what you're looking for! What’s the next big social network?

Looks cool at an initial glance. Have you made money with this platform? Any secrets as to how to engage quickly and drive revenue? Let us all know what you have found. Hey quick note: when I click on learn more I get a security certificate error. They should fix this or they will lose a lot of potential members, don't you agree?

Yeah they should but it looks scammy to me..... so there is probably a good reason you got a security certificate error.

Nope, never eve n heard of Steemit before but it sounds interesting, I'll check it out thanks Mike. Is it free to join? I'm going to go and check out your other post for more information on Steemit.

I never heard of it before. I will check it out to get a feeling of it when I get the chance. The fact that they pay for posts is surely going to attract a lot of attention.

Steemit looks like a downright scam to me. I mean where does the actual money come from?

It's all very well saying that people will earn Steemit crytocurrency.. but real money comes from somewhere and to be paid real money there needs to be real money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

idealmike
Well the Steemit crytocurrency is a crytocurrency like any other crytocurrency like bitcoin for example. And that has a real value to it which can be converted to US dollar using a crytocurrency exchange service.

In an interview with the founder of Steemit on the CoinReport site. In a question on How do users withdraw Steem Dollars into USD? He says the user sends the Steem Dollars to an exchange, who may send them USD in return. One of the fast avenues from SD to USD in the early days could be something like SD -> Shapeshift -> BTC -> Coinbase -> USD -> Bank account.

But in the near future that will probably get much less complicated than it sounds! To be honest I've been reading up on it but I still don't really have a clue how it ACTUALLY works myself in its entirety. I get the gist of it and I see a lot of potential in Steemit to advertise your own services because the site is completely 100% uncensored so it means bloggers, affiliate marketers, freelancers etc can use it to post and advertise their services, blog posts and more without advertising. But the actual learning curve on everything around it is just ridiculous!

Steemit isn’t the only social media platform paying out cryptocurrency for content, Taringa! paid out $76,000 in Bitcoin to its 15,000+ members in December 2015. As well as a Latin American site called Zapchain and a Japanese platform called OKWave also paying out large sums in Bitcoin to its content creators. So this is definitely happening.

Mike I am missing something vitally important with the cryptocurrency thing. Something just doesn't add up for me with it. How can someone just start a website and say they are dealing in cryptocurrency and that it has real monetary value... where does this value come from?
I am feeling so dumb here, like everyone understands some concept that is just plain beyond my grasp What’s the next big social network?

Lynne, this is my #1 question regarding the website Steemit. Where does the real money come from? Even if they use an exchange to convert Steem to USD, how does one even bother to convert it into dollars without any backing? One can argue that it is rare to get steem dollars however if multiple people are posting im sure this will inflate the market and turn the steemit dollars into nothing. The seemit worth would deflate to probably less than a 10th of a cent. So with their business model it appears that they haven't worked out all the kinks before launching.

Hi Lynne, would you like to be a beta tester for my platforms that are soon to launch? See my post above. I think you'll like what we are doing and the won't be confusion about how it works but the money available for members will be quite significant. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you and invite once we launch.

LOL I don't know where I will ever find the time! Tell me more about what exactly you would like me to do to be a tester and I'll let you know.

I only have 3 hours a day as it is to work online which is turning out to quite a difficult task!

I strongly believe that social media cannot always be about Facebook. Okay, I know that a billion of people seem to be active on Facebook, but I also hope that there are going to be several social media platforms in the future that can manage to compete with it and maybe manage to surpass it. Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram lag behind, and although I hope they will do better in the future I still hope for something fresh and new. Some possibilities seem to include Faces.com, Hyper, Ello, Shots, and SlideShare. I do hope they will see spikes in their respective popularity in the coming years.

This discussion is already an old one and until now there is no big social network in sight which means the existing big social media networks like Facebook and Twitter are still in their usual positions on top of the heap. Instagram made waves a few years ago but it stopped in a good position that it cannot be considered a giant. Perhaps the situation can only change when something drastic happens like a worldwide calamity.
