What does social signals meant? How could this affect our site's SEO?

Hello Googleer,
Social signals are the likes, shares, votes, pins, or views people place on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or other social media sites that filter out to the various search engines.

Social signal has never been so important. Now, how often do we take recommendations from people in our network? Quite often, right? Whether it is for an investment, an online purchase or a personal issue , we often consult our friends or other experienced people and experts in our network. We do it to get good advice from all parties so that we can arrive at the best decision to act on. A recommendation is like a VOTE that allows you to take a step in that direction. This recommendation, in the eyes of the search engines, is a social signal.

When you share your links on facebook, you will get likes and reshare. When you share on twitter, you will get retweets or likes, when you pin your content, you will get likes and frepins on Pinterest. One every social media, your contents can get likes, shares, up votes, thumbs up etc. These likes, shares, up votes, thumb ups are commonly deboted as socual signals. Social signals may not directly gain you traffic, howerver, they will imporve your ranking on search engines as search engines view social signals very positively.

My understanding of social signals is the backlink that you post in social media network. In the earlier years of SEO, social signal is unheard of but lately social signal is being accepted as one of the SEO methods that work. That means you can post your website’s link in your Facebook timeline or you can post it in Twitter and the search engines will pick up from there.
