How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be?

It's often said that people prefer to read longer Ebooks with more than 100 pages. I am probably not one of those people. And I usually don't write that long Ebooks myself either. My last Ebook was 75 pages long and I think it's more than enough.

  • What about you? How many pages do you think is enough?
  • How many pages were the last Ebook you read or bought?

Sure, one can always find interesting Ebooks with more than 100 pages and read it from cover to cover in a flash, but I usually prefer to read Ebooks with less pages and I tend to enjoy them and/or learn more from them.

Yeah I get what you're saying! I like to read eBooks that say what they need to say in as few words as possible just so I can know what I need to know. It's nice when people go into great detail about things when they're relevant. But many times you'll be reading something and it can go on for pages before you realize that everything you just read in the last 5 pages could have just basically been said on one page!

That's because a lot of people write a lot of filler content to make up for the gaps in between their very good content. Most novels are particularly infamous for their filler content amongst the juicy parts that just go on and on about something not really remotely related or is but just in more than enough detail than was needed to get the point across do you know what I mean!? How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be?

It depends on what I'm reading though but usually novels are most rife for that and can be okay if what you're reading is mildly entertaining but business eBooks like guides, tutorials, instruction manuals and that I like them to be short, sweet and to the point!

However in some case, like Lynne has pointed out, that can be a good thing because people like to hear about other peoples stories, experiences and thoughts and life stories like that in great detail because people and all the things that come with them are much more interesting than instruction manuals! How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be?

So yeah, I guess my answer is that an eBook needs to be as many pages as it needs to be without adding more than is needed but ensuring it says what it needs to say to get the point or message across or tell me what I need to know.

But shorter eBooks are nicer to read because people like to read and learn like they eat - in bite sized chunks!

I hear you Mike. "Fluff" (filler content) is very common in internet marketing ebooks especially, as many buyers believes they'll get more value in a product with 115 pages compared to another one with less than 50 pages, and that's something most authors are taking advantage of. They produce ebooks of 35 pages and adds another 40 pages extra with pure crap.

Yeah that's exactly my point. A lot of eBook authors do this. Both for business related books but especially for novels. I've read a million novels in my time. Most of them were actual books though. And I would say that around 90% of them were mostly made up of "filler content" that I could have lived without and still enjoyed the story just as much if not even more if it wasn't for all the extra fluff they added in!

I think the shorter the better at least it will be for those with short and long span of interest.

Those that write longer ebooks with some passages not connecting is just using the strategy of more pages, more money.

But I think a good eBook should be highest 70 pages and that would be enough that writing out of point.

I wrote an eBook for my marketing website, to give away to new subscribers. It was only 19 pages. Now you've got me thinking I should have written a longer eBook!

I am wanting to write some more eBooks for my addiction website. One as a free give for subscribers and then more that I can sell. I want to share my journey as a drug addict and acloholic and then also about recovery and how I got clean.

I am still trying to find the time to get started with that project though!

Hey Lynne,
19 pages are more than enough, as long as those 19 pages are of high value. Most authors are adding tons of "fluff" into their creations which is basically just a load of filler content you as a reader can live without. With that being said, let me congratulate you to become clean, that's amazing!

I have never been addicted to drugs or alcohol in such way so I can't say that I know anything you're going through, or have been through, but I do know that there's thousands of other people who would benefit from hearing your story and learning from your experience so I do hope you'll launch some sort of product regarding this in the future How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be?

Let me know if I can be of any help further on, as I have at least some experience in this field.

Best Regards,

Yes that is exactly what I found when writing my eBook. I could have made it a lot longer but I don't like any fluff at all, I like meat. So I wrote what I believed was essential to say and left the rest. I was disappointed in how short my eBook was but I did get really good feedback.

I think one of the things holding me back about getting on with writing the addiction eBooks is that I want to show how things really were. How ugly it was... the depths to which a person will sink... BUT I have a mother, and a father... omg and a husband now. I can't say exactly how far my addiction went without possibly upsetting my family.

Then a lot of things also involved other people, I have no right to share their story so I am not sure how to get around these two issues.

You could use a pseudonym, but that would obviously be a bit tricky, as you won't be able to sell it on your personal website or on a marketplace where you're called "Lynne". I've never done this myself, so I can't tell how it would end up either. But my guess is that it would be easier to write an actual book this way. And sell it in a store rather than online on your personal blog or website.

With that being said, I would love to read your story, so if, and when, you make it, please let me know. Not because I'm a fan of these kind of things at all, but I am very interested in other peoples stories. I love hearing them. Especially from people who's been "knocked down on their knees" and got back on their feet again. Good job!

This is a good question! I think the important thing is quality and not quantity. A 1 page ebook can be worth more than a 100 page ebook if it is good. My last ebook was 12 pages but I sold it for $12 so on average $1 a page but is was extremely high quality and works well.

There is no set number of pages an ebook should be as it is about quality. I think an ebook should be to the point and brief but provides all the relevant information. Quality is the key and quantity doesn't matter.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

hitmeasap
I understand exactly what you're talking about, but just to "play around" a bit.. What would count as quality?

I mean, I might think that my ebook with 50 pages are HIGH quality content, and I could even ask my friends or previous buyers, and they might think the same. But if a new clients read it, they might think it's pure crap, garbage or an ebook of low quality..

So, how would one measure that? In your opinion.

I guess it depends very much on what subject you writing about How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be? is it tutorial, recipes, or novel etc... As MasterA said, even one page ebook can be very informative for some kind of ebooks, while perhaps recipes you can write in hundreds and hundreds pages... It's kind of tricky question here How Many Pages Should An Ebook Be?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

hitmeasap
Does it really depend on the subject? - I get your point and I totally agree with you, but, would you seriously buy an ebook if you knew it contained only 1 page? Would you pay, let's say $27 for it, when you know you could get another ebook, in a similar niche, that contained 150 pages for the same price?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EliteWriter
The most important thing is how informative / helpful it is . It will also depend on the subject you are tackling. If it is a story it can be a bit longer, but if it is something simple such as a guide to something or tips about something it had better be concise. On average I think that 60 to 100 pages are enough, but as I said it depends on the subject and type of ebook. To me shorter ebooks work best as I prefer it that way. And obviously quality is more important than quantity.

Hello hitmeasap thanks for your nice question again. I am not used to reading any eBook. And I am not purchasing so much eBook from online. Though, I have purchased few eBook last couple of years about social media marketing. And I saw there are discussing several matter with their method and some of 5 pages and some of 10 more pages. And I think it is depend on your subject or topic. If your subject matter contain too much information, you have to write more word, and sure with more details and that may long page. And I think few pages but enough informative very much popular for eBook. It may 5-10 pages. I am sure, it is easy to understand and reading without boring if few pages but informative.

It depends on the information you're trying to pass out to your audience that will determine how many pages your ebook is going to be. I mean there are some ebooks that are 100 pages, yet they did not hit the right points as expected by the buyer. So, making valid points on your book is really important.

When I asked that question to a publisher of books before the advent of the internet, the answer I got was it depends on the contents of the book. It can be as thin as 50 pages and as thick as 500 pages. However, the main consideration in printed publication is the cost because paper and other materials incur expense. But with the e-book which has nothing to do with printing then I guess there is not standard length or number of pages.
