I have always seen a load of services here for buying social followers. What exactly is the benefit in doing this.
From what I understand these will never be real followers interested in your content, they will just be an ego boost or perhaps impress people that see the amount of followers you have?
I can't see any bought followers actually engaging with you or your content and certainly not purchasing anything.
Why do all these services say "followers won't drop? I actually did buy followers for one of my social networks about 4 years ago and after a while all the followers just disappeared.
What are your views on this? Am I missing something?

Yeah, 99.9% of the followers will be fake and never convert into sales directly.
I've definitely built up all my pages with 5,000 to 10,000 followers on all my platforms before I do any type of advertising just so when people do come to my social profiles they will be more willing to follow or like because they see so many other people already are.
You can also buy services to share your posts to the fake masses. This will encourage real people to share since other "people" already are lol. Someone might see that a post has 500 shares and they were on the fence about sharing, but now they think it's ok because everyone else is doing it. It's kind of like "If your friends jump off a bridge, would you? YUP!" :D
People tend to be followers and if you show them social profiles with a lot of followers then they'll fall in line and do the same :)

At the end of the day people do it because they know that numbers beget numbers. Just like comments beget more comments, a few likes and shares can beget more likes and shares. And simply because people are more inclined to watch a video that has a lot of views over videos that don't because usually they have more views because they are better videos. It works the same with Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and all sorts of other social media pages and profiles in that by having a lot of followers people are much more likely to follow you. It can make them think that your account is popular and good and they want to follow you because of it.
So in some cases it can be useful like that and many people as pointed out here, use them to bolster new pages and profiles to kickstart some life into them so that they can gain more REAL likes, fans and followers. So that is why most people do it most of the time.
The other reason would be so that you got more engagement / response on the things you post and share. But that would only happen if those likes/fans/followers etc were all real people and in most cases that is not the case when buying bulk likes/fans/followers etc. You know, you might find this surprising, but there are a lot of big names and celebrities that have purchased likes, followers and fans for their profiles and for some of them is how they got so big.
