How to find a good partner for your website?

Finding the right partner to start a website or forum is very important because you will be working with them for a long period of time. This is different to hiring staff because if you hire the wrong staff, then you can fire them but with partners, they also own part of the website so you can’t fire them. Therefore, it is crucial you find the right partner the first time round. Here are some tips for the right partner:

  1. It is important that you have worked with them in the past. You want a very responsible partner and knowing them before will ensure they are the right person.
  2. Choose someone who is as motivated as you because starting something new will require a lot of time and motivation.
  3. Another problem is that you may have conflicts of interest with partners so you should try to find a partner who has similar traits to you.

Oh great question MasterA! Those are some wise tips too. To finding someone to partner and network with. You're talking about starting what could be a long working friendship or relationship with someone so it's important to make sure you team up with someone that you are going to be able to gel with and get along with. Someone that you can rely on and trust in and someone that is up for the job at hand. Knowing them already as a friend or business partner from the past is helpful and that they're motivated is too so you know they're up for doing it. And finding someone that you have something in common with or share the same passions or interests will help in the long run too. One thing I'll say about choosing a partner to partner up with on your website, whether that's from only making them an administrator or giving them much more control over the finances and spendings etc is to take your time with people. Even if someone sounds great, don't just hire them then and there. Take the time to get to know them. Interview or canvass other people too and then keep a record of all the check boxes each tick and then at the end of it you will have a better idea about which one of those people will be the ideal candidate for the partnership!

That all depends on if you've found someone though. In order to do that you would need to advertise in the right places for what you're looking for. As it's a job, and if it's a paid job then you could create a new job offering on your local job websites or nationwide and International job sites and job boards etc. Then there's using forums as well which are probably the best method actually because you can join forums that are related to your niche or business and on these places you will be much more likely to find someone that is qualified for the job and partnership. I've had more success finding people to network and partner with using niche forums that I have any other medium including job sites and social media. But social media is another method for finding people to network and partner with on a project as well. You might be surprised how many of your business's followers there are that would be willing to partner with you on something for free just because they have a vested interest in it anyway. So advertising on social media can find you lots of potential partners if you advertise to your followers or on places like Facebook Groups and other niche Pages related to your niche. You will definitely find people this way like this but of course should apply all the tips that you have pointed out and about taking your time before hiring someone too.

You could also go a few steps further after you've found someone that seems ideal for the partnership and that is to find out more details about them such as any past projects or websites they've worked on or partnered up with and see how those are doing to getting their own Facebook profile and seeing what kind of things they post and if they have any bad habits that kind of thing but don't hold people to close to what's in their past if they're seemingly qualified for the job, work, and you get on with them and they're motivated and tick all the other boxes and are just a cool all rounded person then you should have found one and I hope that all it works out best for you in the long run. There are not many people I would partner with on a website or any business. I have seen so many people start a business with others and have it fall through.

So yes these are awesome tips and things to consider for anyone needing or wanting to partner with anyone. I would really advise being cautious and taking your time. Don't rush into anything!

Yeah that is true. Plus it can get tricky when splitting profits. Because if you're using an affiliate of some kind, you can't have a joint account with them and someone has to be the owner of it and then send the payment (half) to the other person. That's where trust comes into play, in that you'd have to trust that they're sending you the fair share and if things fall through and the bottom drops out, if they are the one who has the affiliate account, they could decide to stop sending you your fair share or maybe other things come into play beyond their control and they can't pay you for some reason. That's why it is important to take your time and not rush into teaming up with someone straight away and get to know them first, find out their weak points and flaws if any because someone can tick all the boxes on your list but still not be idea in the type of person they are, things they do etc.

As for me, I prefer to go it alone because it means more money for me. There may be times when a partner would possibly "lighten the load" but in those times it's about finding someone you can outsource to that you can use from time to time instead of getting them on board and paying them full time. Besides, if they're not doing the same amount of work as you are you would have to take that into consideration as well. I don't know, it's just seems like something you'd only do if absolutely necessary.

Yeah I totally agree on that. I want to also keep all the money to myself.

I think I have a bit of a negative view because I have seen what happened in our family with a business.... and it was very ugly. Even the people you think you can really trust to be on your side can screw you over financially and with workload.

I think the best is to go it alone and then outsource or maybe even hire staff. That was you can get rid of people if they don't do what they are supposed to and it costs less in the long run.

By nature I am not someone who trusts easily. I am also a perfectionist and I like what I do best. So for me it would not be a good idea to partner up with someone, no matter how reliable he may seem or how fast friends we are. If I were to have a choice I would surely choose to work on my own. If that is not possible because of budget restrictions or other things I would first make sure I know him/her really well, that we agree on most things that matter, and that we set up some sort of written agreement that will bind both of us.

Let me share our sad experience with a business partner. He was a high school chum of my husband so we had trusted him. But unknown to us, he was only waiting for our business to pick up before he would launch his evil intention. He pirated our major clients and he only declared his own business when one of our employees revealed it to us. But anyway, I’m not saying that all partners are bad. Just pray for a good one.
