    Does chicken soup really work to cure a cold?

    Why does everyone say that hot chicken soup is good for curing a cold? What's in chicken soup that makes it so great at getting rid of a cold?

    I am not sure what it is that makes one feel better but I feel that it is just a comfort food and always makes me feel better.

    It doesn't cure a cold/flu from what I understand but the warm broth soothes your sore throat and somehow breaks up congestion.

    Apparently it does help cure cold. Chicken has a substance known carnosine. When you take a lot of this, it reduces the stuffy, congested feeling you get in your throat when you are sick. Also, there is a chemical released when you boil the bones together and make it into a soup. However, this is not to say, chicken soup is the go to medication for flu. You should always visit a medical personnel when ill.

    I met a lung specialist that told me, his patients have to eat chicken soup until they have feathers. I couldn't help it but to laugh in his face. He explained to me, a hot soup in the face of a sick person, will make him breath vapors. That is like a home made nebulizer therapy, it will make all the mucus get more fluid and easy to get rid off. Also, the patient will sleep better and will feel better too. Besides that, it will get more hydrated, and his stomach will get detox from junk food. So basically it can work with any other hot soup or beverage, is just more a mind placebo thing to make you feel comfy.

    I don't think it the chicken that takes away cold,I want to believe it the hot sauce or broth.I think will build and repair the body as protein.

    I think different people and different thoughts. So for one it may work and for another it may not work. So depending on how you handle things it would surely be different in many ways. And for this reason you can see that chicken soup is good for heart and also for the cold times. I think taste is something maybe different from culture to another. It all depends on how the people are choosing to be getting up with the soup. I think chicken soup is good for those who are not vegan. For vegans they may prefer clear soup.

    Chicken soup that is prepared with some extra spices can help to cure a cold if you take it while it is hot. I must confess that the heat that you will experience will help to loosen your body system.

    It is common for us to have chicken or lamb sour when we are suffering from cold. It always works, however, we don't know the exact reason behind this. We believe that some food has cold nature and some food has hot nature. Generally speaking, meat products have hot nature, thus chicken soup will make you feel better when you have a cold.

    We are not Americans who cook chicken soup for the common cold. But we have our own remedy which is porridge. When we are sick with cold or even flu when we were young, my mother would cook chicken porridge that will be my meals for the whole day until I get well. And I think the chicken porridge really works because I would be well within 2 days or so. Until now, we are still cooking chicken porridge when someone at home is sick with cold.
