How long after renewing a domain, is it live again?

One of my domains went into expiry as I didn't notice it needed renewed. I have now just paid the renewal and wondering how long it takes for the domain to be live again to stop saying it needs renewed when I visit my website?

It usually takes only a few hours (4-6hrs), but I'd give it at least a full 24hrs, before putting in any inquiries.

I have the same problem right now. Backordered domain, now waiting for auction to end.

Bottom line: Namecheap > Godaddy.

I am with namecheap. A couple of months ago, some of my domains expired. When I renewed, it had been already two weeks since they are expired. Since these domains were not hosted domains, I did not check whether the domain was live or still down. Generally speaking, it takes 24-48 hours for a domain to update, this is what Namecheap knowledgebase articles told me.
