    What if you own a business and someone takes your business name for their domain? What can be done?

    Chances are, you could file a trademark suit as your business name is yours to use and does not belong to anyone else.

    There is usually serious legal consequences for a site owner who steals another company's business name. When big money is involved, usually lawyers are happy to sue.

    If & only if you have a (R) TM on your business you can fight a case. And again, there is no guarantee that you will win.

    If you are sure you have a prior claim to the name such as a registered business, you might have legal grounds for a lawsuit. Talk to an attorney for advice.

    You cannot go through legal actions unless your business, the trademarks and logos associated with your business are registered. You should also clearly mention that your trademarks and logos are copyrighted in writing in your company paper. If you have secured your logo, trademark, and the entire business, you can file a case against a person/website if it is using your name for their domain. However, the website owner should be under the jurisdiction of your country. In order to play safe, you should immediately register a domain with your business name as soon as you register your business.
