    Social networking and bookmarking
    One of my commenters last week asked about the difference between social bookmarking and social networking sites. I think of social networking sites as ones where you can communicate directly with other members, where as social bookmarking sites are ones that you can add bookmarks to be shared with other members without as much direct communication.
    There are sites that are definitely considered one or the other, but some sites offer both bookmarking and networking features. Here are some networks that can be used for both purposes.

    Social networking is a phenomena described by connecting people to each other in some way. It enables you to interact with individuals online in a social way that a website wouldn't.
    Social bookmarking is the ability to save and categorize a personal collection of bookmarks and share them with other people.

    So what are they? We all talked about the differences. What are the sites that have both bookmarking and networking? It seems most services lean heavily in one direction or the other.

    My view is the following:

    Social Networking sites start with the intention of building relationship, connection and community of the liked minded individuals. It tends to be more personal.

    Social Bookmarking sites start with the intention of sharing/bookmark the interested sites/blogs for the sharing within the community.

    However, the line is getting blur nor with the additional focus on links building and social connection between the two platforms.

    Start with creating accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. Make sure you have content from your site which you can share. Then start formulating posts. That should be basic steps.

    Social networking is a platform where the members directly interact. The interaction is done through posting status, commenting on the status, chatting, sharing images etc. Social bookmarking is a platform where you share your links, images, posts however, do not interact with other members directly. Facebook is a social media, however, Pinterest is a social bookmarking. Social bookmarking is a notice board like website where you share work for other to see.

    Thank you for the information. Now I know the difference of a social bookmarking site with your examples. I have no account in Pinterest but I am seeing that often in some discussions not only in this forum but in other forums as well. I have an idea of the mechanics of Pinterest and it’s not so deep because I have no use for it as of now. But when I go full time in my freelancing and that I will be engaging in marketing then it is imperative that I have my own Pinterest account.
