    What is username squatting on Twitter?

    A friend of mine says his account was deactivated over suspicion of username squatting. Just what is username squatting on Twitter and why would they simply deactivate or suspend his account over it?

    Twitter won't let you do this either. They'll just shut the account down if it's not being used and most likely the name will go back into the pool of available Twitter usernames for someone else to use.

    When you "hog" a username. Twitter cannot delete/suspend the account however, unless you are breaking a rule.

    When you "hog" a username. Twitter cannot delete/suspend the account however, unless you are breaking a rule.


    If you're not actively using the username but have just registered that username, then they are welcome to delete the account. It says so in the TOS of the site.
