    Give me some good tips for adding friends on Facebook

    I want to meet more friends on Facebook, not just people I know locally. What are some tips for adding friends on Facebook?

    Don't just add someone randomly from a forum or site just because they ask you to do so. You don't know what their intentions are.

    Ask your friends for recommendations as they will know you best and understand what type of person you will get along with. Then if they recommend someone, be sure to private that person before and invite them to chat before you add them to your friend list. You don't want to simply add someone because they know your friend. They should also have something in common with you.

    Go to your friends pages and see who their friends are. Click through on the names of friends and see if any posts are public. If so, then make a polite comment on that person's timeline post or photo or like the photo. Don't do this a lot, just once per friend you want to add. Make sure that person recognizes you and you have some kind of link to them before you send a friend invite. That way you are not just a random person trying to friend them. Also, send a message with the invite if possible saying how you are both friends with the same person. That might provide more reassurance.

    I'm not sure why you'd want to invite random people to friend you with the hopes of getting to know them better. Maybe you and I just use Facebook differently, but I generally do not add people I haven't met in person yet.

    Maybe instead of adding people willy-nilly, you could join a Facebook group that interests you and meet people that way. What are your hobbies? If you're into fitness, join a Facebook group that focuses on exercise and fitness. Do you read books? Join a page that revolves around the genre you like. This way you're more likely to meet people with the same interests as you and get to know them before you simply add them as a friend.

    My style in getting Facebook friends is to add those havingthe same interest as mine. My theme is pets so I normally comment on a post about
    pets. I would check the other commenters and if they look okay then I send them
    a friend request. And to make myself known to them, I click like on their
    comment and if appropriate, I post a reply. There, that would make me visible
    to them and would probably be accepted as a new friend. It is not good to send
    friend requests to anyone at random. You might hit a troll or a spammer.
