Indexing is know as collecting detailed information by the search engine spider.

Crawling is a an algorithmic process by Google Bot to gather information which should follow or not.

Indexing is something like to gather information from your site and add to its database.

Crawling is the process of an engine requesting — and successfully downloading — a unique URL. Obstacles to crawling include no links to a URL, server downtime, robots exclusion, or using links (such as some JavaScript links) from which bots cannot find a valid URL.
Indexing is the result of successful crawling. I consider a URL to be indexed (by Google) when an info: or cache: query produces a result, signifying the URL’s presence in the Google index. Obstacles to indexing can include duplication (the engine might decide to index only one version of content for which it finds many nearly identical URLs), unreliable server delivery (the engine may decide to not index a page that it can access during only one-third of its attempts), and so on.

Crawling means search engine will crawl the link of a website for that purpose we are using sitemap page
Indexing means once search engine crawl a particular link next step it will index the database of a particular link like content, links and images

Crawling is done by search engine where it go through the entire page content based on their algorithm. Successful crawling is called Indexing.

I am not really well versed with indexing and in fact I want to learn more about it. My idea of indexing is the search engine had included the link of the site in its index so it will be easier to include it in the search list. The crawler is a set of codes that crawl in the internet to check on the details of the site like the backlinks and bookmarks. Please correct me if I am not correct in my understanding.
