    Neither! They help you to increase social traffic! But organic traffic from search engines is gained by on site and off site optimization! Social signal is a low ranking factor and both twitter and Facebook have low weight! The leader is Google plus and do follow social bookmarks sites!

    I have learned from one discussion that the links of your website that you post in social media are called social signals. It is different from social backlinks that you have posted in social bookmarking sites. Anyway, to me, they look the same and as long as what you post affects the SEO in a good way then so be it. With the comparison of Twitter and Facebook, I will go for Facebook because I find it is more engaging than Twitter especially with the comments that can be replied to in the posts.
