    Do keywords have to be in your content?

    For instance, could you simply put your keywords in your blog title/tags and not in the actual post and still rank for those keywords? What are your thoughts?

    Yes , we can put keywords in post but have some restrictions like keyword density. Its my personal experience I have not put the keywords in post then also my site is ranking well.

    When I first encountered keywords for SEO method I thought all along that it was only in the meta tags that it will appear. But later on as I go along reading some other discussions about keywords it dawned on me that the density was actually about the keywords that were in the contents. Regarding the spamming issue I am also wondering how the search engine crawlers would take note that the content has so many keywords.

    Yes your website will rank either way but putting keywords in blog posts increase chances of ranking higher more. I personally suggest that you should put keywords in blog posts and make them strong as well. Also be careful regarding keyword density.

    Yes, your website will be ranked. In fact the keywords in Blog/ Title/ Meta Tags/ Tags/ Headings are more effective rather than content keywords.

    Once I ranked for keywords that were in my blog category links and tags. Even when I wasn't trying to rank specific pages. It was more annoying though as I wanted to rank for specific not random pages. :/

    most people fail miserably in the "alt tag" department.. its the easiest place to get your targeted keywords in and not look spammy to the reader.

    I think the post should contain the keyword, irrelevant keywords in tags and titles may cause problems. I saw such in one of my websites.

    Yes, you could rank number 1 for any keyword(s) even without having those keyword(s) anywhere on the page at all with enough off-page SEO.

    Example. Why do you think Adobe ranks 1st for "click here" but you can't find that anywhere on the page.

    One of the common questions I get (especially from small businesses) is would it be beneficial for them to go after the "hot topic" keywords.
    For example, if "raw food" is trending, create raw food related content.
    Their thinking is to just drive traffic to their site but what they are missing is what those visitors will do after reaching to the site.

    Picking an easy to rank keyword is important but knowing the user intent (why they search for that keyword) and create the correct content around it is as important as well.

    Otherwise the users will just bounce and never come back.

    Yeah, people long and old always used to say Content is King but these days, that's not true.

    having keywords in the content is like having double chance. You can rank for your keyword rich title, keyword rich description and tags, however, if you use keywords in the content, your chances of ranking better increases. Using keywords is not very difficult, few tweaks will do that. However, you must be aware that your keyword density must not be more than 5 percent.

    My initial understanding in keywords is the tagging. I think it goes inside the title or the subtitle but I’m not sure. But recently I have read in a discussion that it is better if the keyword would appear right in the article although the appearance should not be excessive for it is tantamount to spamming. And it is better if the same keyword would appear 3 to 5 times in the different parts of the article. Maybe that helps with the SEO capability of the website.
